It can be a hell of a motivator

@BreadWarlock It sure motivated Rambo. In First Blood: Part 2.

I have seen both of the films. The original is truly a classic. The remake was not quite as good in my opinion.

I read the book many years ago. It was written by Civil War General Lew Wallace. The book was one of the best sellers of its time.

Here is a link.to an article about the author if you are interested.

I doubt that hate by itself has ever kept anyone alive.
It's a form of stress, and stress kills. It's more likely that the quote is about the desire for revenge that motivated Ben Hur and kept him alive.

@SW-User It's not hatred that's important. It's the desire to annihilate.

Ben Hur is a long film. It takes a lot of stamina to get through it all. I tried to read the book once. I couldn't get into it. The modern update of the film is shorter but lacks the heart and soul of the original. It didn't win 11 Oscars for no reason.

@Jacko1971 i never read the book, but the film is really good
Jacko1971 · 51-55, M
@Harmony it's a classic. It's been on TV many, many times. Have you seen the more recent one?
Harmony · 31-35
@Jacko1971 haven't seen it recently, but it remains a major part of my viewing life. I seem to remember parts that affect my life profoundly. I can't forget it even thought it portrays a life of Roman occupancy of Judea based upon the Hollywood way of portraying it. I will watch it again sometime when I get the chance with a critical view. But knowing the end I will always appreciate the movie

Back in the days of three channel TV this was a guaranteed Easter fixture in the UK.

From what I remember, it's Ben Hur's hate for Masala that drives him to be the man he became.
Harmony · 31-35
@Jacko1971 yes, the positive side of hate, maybe
Sidewinder · 36-40, M
It's been a while since I last seen it, so I don't really recall any quotable lines offhand.
Harmony · 31-35
@Sidewinder that was one of them
