I didn't know of the Addams Family, originally, but followed the zany antics of the Munsters.
When I DID discover the Addams family, I wondered how the casual violence would play, today, and appreciated the far lesser violence of the Munsters even more (Herman bumping his head was nothing like the Addams children being involved with feats which--if copied by zealous fans--would have had tragic results).

@SomeMichGuy yes it was definitely a different era in tv and society. I feel similar about the difference between my childhood and the experience that kids get today. Times change.

@2cool4school I think parents accepted that kids would get into minor trouble and get scrapes, bites, and even the occasional broken bone.
However, my Dad had guns but they were for hunting *fowl*,not other kuds or any other humans, and THAT was damn clear.
And we didn't have bicycle helmets, but we lived on a busy rural road and would go on a pretty short stint to a close church & back.
We were kids, but we didn't think that jumping off of a garage roof would make us fly, and we didn't try to poke out our own or anyone else's eyes.

I Always liked the Munsters more, Herman and Grandpa were hilarious and goofy, Fred Gwynne was brilliant in any role he played

I enjoyed the Munsters more

@Gusman Same. Better theme song too.

I liked Addams better. They knew they were freaks and had no desire to fit in.
They loved being freaks

The Munsters was a better tv series. But the Addams Family movies (1990s) are classic!!!

The Adams Family has the better song, but generally The Munsters are slightly better

I liked the 90s Adams family movies

@Lostpoet I just don’t think I got into them. Maybe timing as I was in a hurry to grow up in the 90s.
I never realized that the shows were on at the same time and ran for the same period and number of episodes is very similar 64-70 but the Munsters is just recently getting a “reboot” in the form of a Rob Zombie movie I think I read and the Addams Family has been through a few renditions. I’m not sure what even made me think of them ?? (I can’t remember the last time I watched either one)

@2cool4school Rob Zombie is awesome I'm a little scared what he's going to do with the monsters though considering his other movies.
