Star Wars.
What if Luke's first shot at the Death Star's small thermal exhaust port (right below the main port) is a miss?
The Death Star then fires and destroys the 4th moon of Yavin, where the Rebel base was. Hundreds are vaporized, including Leia and Threepio.
Since Vader and his escort had already been scattered by Han's attack, Luke is still all clear. So he makes another attack run, and this time hits the target. Han and Luke speed away as the Death Star explodes.
But
they
were
too
late!
They weep for the loss of Leia and the Rebels, and vow to fight again another day.
In the sequel R2 builds a Threepio replacement, and Leia appears from time to time as a ghost of the Force.

Les Misérables really annoyed me with Javerts suicide. i was enjoying it until that point because it just felt so stupid. he was so confused at being spared by someone he was trying to catch that he tosses himself into the river.
in my version he would have survived and come to realise that sometimes total commitment to duty isn't always the most moral thing to do. that in this one instance he would be fine forsaking his duty since something better came of it and finally understand Jean. he would have had some character development. literally anything other than the original fate >.<

Titanic, That chick shared that oversized floating thing with Jack and he survived to dump her a week or two later.
