The Matrix is real. You live your life and feel your feelings but it is all for the benefit of your slave master.

Would you care? Is that a problem?
Would you want to fight it or would you be happy to just eat that steak?
Personally it doesn't really bother me. Steak is steak.
In modern epistemology there is the "brain in the vat" question. How do we know we're not a brain in a vat being fed all the data that makes us think we have free will in a world around us? It's a fundamental question in epistemology as it separates what we can know for sure (we can never know we're not a brain in a vat) from what is plausible (we're probably not a brain in a vat, that's pretty dark) or what is relevant (if I am a brain in a vat, fuck it. what can I do?).

So you've been redpilled that you're a brain in the vat. Or a body in the matrix. It seems what happens next comes down to values. Do you have a responsibility to get out of the matrix or not? And that depends upon altruism. Neo gets out of the matrix to liberate everyone from the matrix.

It's really an analog to the spiritual question-- do I have any responsibility for spiritual inquiry? It depends upon one's values. If one dies and rots, or if one is saved and goes to heaven, or dies and rots in hell-- and that's it... then who cares? But if one has a responsibility to awaken or save others, then yes, one has to engage in spiritual inquiry.

Repeat for philoophical inquiry. Scientific inquiry. Social justice.

It goes on.
@CopperCicada

lol yes i'm a big fan of that argument even though i find it frustrating to think about.

This is a good point. For myself i don't care whether the input i'm receiving is natural or artificial in origin because there is no practical difference.
But do i owe it to the human species to allow it to perpetuate itself (or fail) under its own power?
Maybe! lol

I'd at least like to make a few bug reports on my programming
@SarahAndSamantha

@SarahAndSamantha They'll close them, label them "wontfix", and reset you. Do you think I would do differently if I could make my customers forget about their reports?
SarahAndSamantha · 46-50, F
@Elessar hell, at this point, i'd be okay with a reset :P

People prefer a sweet lie over harsh reality, this pandemic has cast a light on this. Full of Cyphers.
@Elessar Often true

Steak is good, but not that good....
@SilkandLace2

But isn't it real? You're still living in and interacting with the world. It's just that it's digital rather than physical.
SilkandLace2 · 46-50, M
@Pikachu ok, you just said it,, digital is just that, digital.....lol
@SilkandLace2

A digital reality instead of a physical one😉.
