Spanish government official calls for sanctioning Israel to stop its "genocidal assault" on Gaza

What about the official's own possible double standard? She says Israel's military operation is "planned genocide" of Palestinians. Will she admit that the Hamas terror assault on southern Israel on October 7 had nothing to do with the occupation but was pure Jew hatred? What about that?

This is a big deal in Spain because she is the leader of the Podemos Party, the junior and most left-wing part of the coalition government. Irene Montero has also tweeted in support, which is also significant because she is the partner of the former leader. Podemos has been itself divided for years (there are a few stories in that alone) but it looks like the party is significantly falling behind a position to defend Gaza.

Pedro Sanchez is the Spanish PM and as the leader of the (centre-left) PSOE is now in an awkward position. The right of his own party will be heavily pro-Nato and pro-Israel. There are those in PSOE who would probably prefer a coalition with the centre-right anyway and they once orchestrated a coup against Sanchez for that reason. They never liked Podemos anyway and you don't need a crystal ball to predict that they will go on TV slagging off the lefties for breaking ranks. So one part of this story is that the Spanish government coalition will be very heavily and bitterly divided for some time to come.

Spain is also a country that doesn't like Jews.
@sascha The only country that had its own inquisition by name.

Possible double-standard?

How is this even a criticism?

I could take a position on virtually anything and it could be a 'possible' double standard.
@Burnley123 She raised the double standard issue by comparing the meek criticism of Israel's genocide in Gaza with the fierce criticism of Russia's genocide in Ukraine. So I ask about her own possible double standard.

@flipper1966 She would surely say that she is highlighting the double standards of others.

As someone who supports Ukrainians against invasion, I would.
@Burnley123 I was posing an ironic query, that's all. 🇬🇧 🇺🇸

Ione Belarra, minister of social rights in Spain’s socialist-communist coalition government issued her statement on X:
[Netahyahu’s] government is carrying out war crimes in the Gaza Strip—massive bombings, water and electricity cuts—they do not allow humanitarian aid to enter. … Reporting that genocide is not ‘aligning with Hamas,’ it is a democratic obligation. Silence, complicity with terror
Incidentally, this assesses Al Jazeera as left-leaning and not
a right wing organization.
@flipper1966 So many strawman propositions, it's hard to pick one to start with. But, then again, I am not one to engage in strawman arguments. Your responses should be to my comment, not your imagination.
@Northwest I view exchanges here as conversations not debates. But, hey, that's me. I like freedom to express ideas.
I see her point of view... next to the office we had a dodgy garage run by a bloke called Steve... he kept hogging our electricity so we tried to put off his potential customers.
@AmericaFirst I see a lawsuit.

If a third party interferes with a contract or business relationship, it may be tortious interference in a business relationship.

Some examples of actionable interference may include convincing a shared supplier to renege on a contract or a third party interrupting the sale of property to a business. If a third party unfairly interferes with a business contract or relationship and causes damage, a tortious interference claim may be a viable option.
I'm sure Israel will listen to her.
@Bumbles Israel has already slammed the Spanish government.

@flipper1966 In response, Israel has imposed a ban on the import of Spanish ham, but the Minister of the Interior admits the effect may be negligible. "I think we import one ham a year, and we still haven't finished the one from last year" said Moshe Arbel in a November 8 interview with the Jerusalem Post.

Ask her not us.
I've found that if I'm going on a hunt to see who in this world is the biggest hypocrite, the first place I should check is the mirror.
@LordShadowfire I don't get it. 🤔
@flipper1966 Find the hypocrite in the mirror.
@LordShadowfire I don't use the word hypocrite. The word has moral connotations that I try to stay clear of. I don't use the word evil for the same reason.
