Spanish government official calls for sanctioning Israel to stop its "genocidal assault" on Gaza

What about the official's own possible double standard? She says Israel's military operation is "planned genocide" of Palestinians. Will she admit that the Hamas terror assault on southern Israel on October 7 had nothing to do with the occupation but was pure Jew hatred? What about that?

This is a big deal in Spain because she is the leader of the Podemos Party, the junior and most left-wing part of the coalition government. Irene Montero has also tweeted in support, which is also significant because she is the partner of the former leader. Podemos has been itself divided for years (there are a few stories in that alone) but it looks like the party is significantly falling behind a position to defend Gaza.

Pedro Sanchez is the Spanish PM and as the leader of the (centre-left) PSOE is now in an awkward position. The right of his own party will be heavily pro-Nato and pro-Israel. There are those in PSOE who would probably prefer a coalition with the centre-right anyway and they once orchestrated a coup against Sanchez for that reason. They never liked Podemos anyway and you don't need a crystal ball to predict that they will go on TV slagging off the lefties for breaking ranks. So one part of this story is that the Spanish government coalition will be very heavily and bitterly divided for some time to come.
