I Have Epilepsy

I never really took epilepsy to be life-threatening or something that could potentially kill me. I thought that, because I haven’t had a seizure in 5 years and on medication, I’ll be fine.

But hearing about someone dying in their sleep after having a seizure, despite receiving treatment, it really makes me wonder. I may be fine for now, but who knows what can happen in the future.

Saying that, I’m not afraid of death. Never was. I know it’s inevitable. It’s going to come one way or another. I’ve accepted that.

But I’m only 23. I have so many things that I want to do and accomplish, before I do go. I want to travel, share my art, do some good in the world.

The way I look at these things is that you could worry about it and get blown up in a terrorist attack tomorrow, or get hit by a bus. Life is too short to worry about when we might die, until such time as someone tells us that it's imminent. Just live, every day. That way you'll not have wasted any time.

@SW-User Yeah I try not to dwell on it too much :)

@Henal Good. Health concerns can really feed anxiety which just makes everything worse.

@SW-User Yeah it really does 😕
You're not going to die early. Just know that. Most people don't die of epilepsy. Most people don't die of drinking too much water, but some do. It's so remote, I wouldn't worry about it, especially since it's been so long since you've had a seizure, and, you're do young and have a lot of resilience.

You're doing great!!! 🤗

All the more reason for you not to hold back anymore. Your ailments are just a small part of your life. They should not rule over the entirety of it. You owe it to yourself to fulfill the life you want. You said it, you have so much you want to do. Remember that next time you lose interest or faith in yourself.

Do all you want to. Live.
My oldest aunt had grand mal epilepsy and no one wanted her to do anything. I was very little when she passed but I did not like seeing her life limited.

@Henal Very welcome. X
I deal with them as well. In my case they were an adult onset case.

Don’t let anything stop you from what you want.
This is a manageable disorder.

If you are on medication and regularly seeing a GP you are unlikely to have a breakthrough seizure.

@Tryingtomoveforward I know, but sometimes there's always that thought at the back of my head. Sometimes when my eyes get fuzzy, or I feel faint, I'm like 'I'm not getting a seizure, am I?'.
