How do you pull someone out of depression?

LilPrincess · 41-45, F
I can't even pull myself out of it let alone give advice to help someone else 😒
LilPrincess · 41-45, F
@NativePortlander1970 thank ya🤗❤️

Im very sorry you had to go through that. I can't imagine.

I'm great at using humor to make the entire world happy.
@LilPrincess (((((HUGS))))) You're so very welcome Dearest Friend, and Thank You so very much as well too 🤗❤️ One thing I noticed when I used to watch A&E Biography religiously in the 90's was that a common thing among comedians are that most of them grew up depressed and in broken homes, they used humor to cope and found happiness in making others laugh, it became our talent.

@NativePortlander1970 you're welcome 🤗❤️

I noticed that too. Sadly I didn't have a broken home just I was broken. My dad was very funny and could have been a comedian himself but depression finally won.
You can't - but being there to talk to them and distract them helps me immensely... especially when I'm struggling to communicate and say how I feel.
@HootyTheNightOwl they refuse to talk when depressed
@sstronaut The only other thing you can do is to sit with them quietly and allow them to deal with whatever is going on by themselves... but be sure that they know that you are there if they want to talk.

I like to be a "fixer", too, but there's no other way to reach someone after they close the world out.

I don't think that's possible. But you can make time for them. Listen the best you can. Allow them to vent.
GuyWithOpinions · 31-35, M
You cant. You can offer support, but its up to them to do it.
Casheyane · F
@GuyWithOpinions Seems like it, yeah. But dang it, it's really hard to wait sometimes.
Dethmoore · 31-35, M
I don’t think you can. They have to do it themselves.

Or maybe, I guess you can always be there for them. Take them places, do activities with them, make them happy. You might overexert yourself for them in the process, and it might not even work. Ultimately, it’s up to them. You’re just support, at best.
Umile · 41-45, F
You can try.

But, in the end.

They have to.
Often you can’t. All you can do is be there for them while they pull themselves out.
iamonfire696 · 41-45, F
You can’t unfortunately. You can be there for them when they want to talk though.
Give them something to live for maybe but I doubt you can. Just be there.
Casheyane · F
I have been trying for years. Please tell me when you find it out.
