My depression has lifted

Usually it's predictable.
One episode that lasts at most a month between the months of January-February
Then my second episode between July-December.
I only get two episodes a year, maybe three depending.
And usually it's a lack of interest in things I enjoy so it feels horrible. Life feels bland or listless but I'm at least still productive. Just without feeling good about it.

But when it lifts life feels good. And I finally feel myself getting out of my last depressive episode for the year.

your timeline makes me wonder your vit D level

so glad you're getting a break now 🤗
@SW-User That’s a really good point. Sometimes when it seems to be seasonal it’s an issue of vitamin deficiencies.

@SW-User My wife has SAD. I will tell her about this.
SW-User
@DrWatson i hope it will lead to the resolution of her symptoms ☺️
DrWatson · 70-79, M
@SW-User She manages it pretty well with a light box. But I suppose that might be providing Vitamin D, if it is mimicking sunlight.
SW-User
@bijouxbroussard thanks 😊 and yes, ailments cycling with seasons can be revealing.
SW-User
@DrWatson yep, light boxes can help your body make vitamin D, provided it's true a true UV lamp. but you have to take the time out to do it regularly and it's not as effective as the sun or taking vitamin D3, which is not only highly effective but also convenient and affordable.

@SW-User And B !

I got on B vitamins they saw I lacked it when I just had entered a real deep depressive episode. Took it one year and much better
SW-User
@Queendragonfly so glad you are getting what you needed and not just put on antidepressants. not that there's anything wrong with taking them if you need them. but sometimes it's worth an investigation, esp since these nutrients do more than just fighting depression. b vits are important for neurotransmitters and much more
Queendragonfly · 31-35, F
@SW-User Yes. Absolutely agree! I'm on antidepressants too but I think the vitamins are just as important
DrWatson · 70-79, M
We live in Minnesota, so the sun is low in the sky much of the year, and we are covered up when we go out in winter. She does have a "real" lightbox. she also takes vitamin D, but she is clinically depressed, which probably aggravates this. Thanks for sharing your knowledge about all of this :)

@DrWatson yw 🤗

@DrWatson on further thinking, considering your wife's use of both a UV lamp and vit D3 sups; if she's still experiencing some symptoms of SAD, she may want to add in magnesium, if she hasn't already. it's the most important co-factor in the synthesis of vitamin D. i highly recommend magnesium glycinate, as it is the most calming, has a high absorbancy rate, and is least likely to cause gastrointestinal side-effects, starting around 200 mg, preferably with a snack about an hour before bedtime.
DrWatson · 70-79, M
@SW-User She takes magnesium glycinate regularly.
SW-User
@DrWatson good deal. i'm wishing her the best.
DrWatson · 70-79, M
@SW-User Thank you! 🙂

@SW-User I am actually on Vitamin D suppliments(running out sadly lmao). I guess it runs in the family because my grandmother also takes it because of very low levels. Which is weird because the time when they diagnosed me with low levels was when I was outside gardening during the middle of the summer for sometimes two hours a day. I'm a healthy eater too but I guess my body just doesn't metabolize it like others.
SW-User
@Juvia it's like that in my family too. i take 3000 IU a day, and i'm little. but that's what it takes to get a normal level no matter my sun exposure. i recently found out i'm lacto-intolerlant (i think you might already know that), and i've been wondering if that could have been a metabolic hindrance. i dunno, but i know digestion is important for assimilating supplements.
Queendragonfly · 31-35, F
@Juvia Your skin can only absorb 15 minutes D vitamin daily. So it's not how long it's how often.
