How to overcome depression

Ever felt worthless, numb, sad, helpless, with no hope for the future? How does one deal with such feelings, especially when the one person you love is the main reason you feel like this? How do you unlove that person and move on with your life? How do you let all the pain and hatred go? How do you move on? Because at this stage it seems almost impossible when you’re in so much pain. How do I choose myself for once and act like none of this ever happened? How do I let go?
Yes, I've felt like that many times. Feel the pain and hatred if you need to, but just to purge them and not to practice them so you can be better at feeling them again later. You'll just build more pain and resentment that way.

The key is to not put the keys to your happiness in someone else's pocket. Know your own worth and love independent of someone else's presence or response to them.

Look for and find things that are satisfying to you. You don't un-love that person and you don't forget it never happened. But you can change your perception of what happened by learning your happiness didn't come from them. It came from YOU. And it can continue coming from you through the practice of self-love.

@PhoenixPhail I’ve been trying to practice self-love the past few days by spending more time with friends and family, and going out more; but none of that has helped me. Whenever I get lonely, or be alone all the pain comes back, and I start hating myself and wishing I could die. It’s almost like in order to feel better I have to always be with people.
@CallMeNelly The be with people as often as you can. Find fun things to do with them. Eventually, the momentum of that will overtake the momentum of self-hatred and wishing you could die. You also may wish to talk with a counselor. I think you're pretty close to getting through this. You may just need a few nudges in the right directions.

That doesn’t help. When you are in the abyss of depression telling someone to love themselves is just words. A person is NOT an island. If you drink coffee in the morning, and enjoy it, then it’s taken away, it effects your morning and how you feel, and that’s just one cup of coffee. We are all interconnected. When those we love are happy and well, we feel better. When those we love are in pain and suffering, we hurt too. You can’t be totally detached from everyone and everything else, and have no emotions about them. @PhoenixPhail

i think the first step of letting go is recognizing the pain that they've been causing you. So you're already past the first step now you just have to decide in what direction you want to move away from them.

I couldn’t let go. So I never did. I just made myself someone I could love because that person can carry the burdens I refuse to let go of much easier.

@Reject but what happens when I hate myself, I can’t forgive myself for all the things I did to me, for everytime I disappointed myself.

@CallMeNelly Then you get to feel like you do now. Think about it, if you hate yourself, obviously you won’t be happy about it. You don’t get to feel good mistreating people, including you. That’s the just the karma of life.

You don't have to act like none of it ever happened; you just keep moving and taking care of things.
