I Battle Depression

I have my first appointment with a psychiatrist next Wednesday. I’m scared if I tell them the extent of my crazy then they’ll lock me up.
One great thing about psychiatrists - you have to work really hard to impress them with how crazy you are. It's hard to make them blink. Don't be scared.

I don't know how it is where you are, but my experience has been that psychiatrists deal with medications more than with talk therapy or behavior modification. I urge you to do both so maybe some day you won't need the meds.

As other people have been saying, it doesn't sound like you're crazy to the point that you wouldn't have thought of scheduling an appointment. In fact, I feel that you are taking a positive, significant step towards the right direction. Although psychiatrists may have spoken with many patients and heard numerous things, I don't think that it lessens the impact/importance of your experience or mean that your problems have no significance. There may be people who are enduring similar problems that psychiatrists have heard of, but it doesn't mean that your experience is a cliche. You may have a similar problem as others, but you have a unique experience (along with feelings and responses) that are different from others. As some people mentioned, it is best to tell them the truth so that they can provide you with the best solutions. I wish you all the best and hope that your appointment goes well.

If you don’t tell them everything then they are counselling a lie.... and therefore unlikely to be able to help you. There is nothing your gonna say that they haven’t heard 10000 tines before.

I know they’ll have heard it before. That’s another problem, I don’t want to be cringing as I sit spouting out cliches @Supesun

They’ve heard it all. They only lock you up if they feel you’re gonna harm yourself or someone else.
If you were that crazy, you never would have scheduled an appointment with a therapist.
Give yourself some credit. You can beat depression.
You just keep saying that
In the end YOU WILL WIN

@SW-User I wouldn't say that. I know some narcissists that are highly delusional, and they think there is nothing wrong with them
SW-User
@SW-User I didn't say they always know. Self-awareness is highly variable in people in general. It's not some kind of quality inherent to mental illness.
SW-User
It can be a quality inherent to particular types of narcississts

I have been to a psychologist for depression a while ago but unless you tell them that you feel like you want to kill yourself constantly you should be fine and they can treat you quite easily.

We run away from the truth too often.

Just remember that this is one person’s opinion. You can always get a second opinion.
SW-User
Unless you're feeling suicidal to the point where they think you might kill or physically injure yourself it is unlikely that they will lock you up. If you seem like a danger to others you may get locked up
SW-User
It sounds like you feel numb. I feel like that to an extent sometimes. Like I have killed myself many times over but somehow I'm still here. I would be completely honest with them

Thank you @SW-User
SW-User
You're welcome
Are you a threat to your own life?
@Mattybthebest Well, you needing professional help does not make you any less human or sane. The fact that you booked yourself instead of doing nothing is quite remarkable! 👍 Hang in there.

I was referred by the doctors for hurting myself @SoulKey
@Mattybthebest Can you refrain from doing so until your appointment please?
Mattybthebest · 36-40, M
This does not bode well
