I Fight Depression And Loneliness Everyday Depres
(Secret good karma!)
Well as some may have read I had my motorcycle stolen. I had been saving up to get a car or truck for winter but this issue certainly threw a wrench in the plans. I only had liability so it was just a loss.
So I spent all my savings (still haven't paid rent yet this month) on buying a replacement bike off Craigslist and I had it for 3 days before the lousy thieves tried to take it again!
So I rarely drink, meaning I get drunk on average once every 3 years. Well I also haven't been dating for 5 years and I finally decided to try again - and I totally like this girl too (probably only another sad portion of the story, is why I mention it, lol) and I ended up drinking more than my usual limit of 1. I had 4 and I knew any more and I would be unlikely to remain upright on the motorcycle on the way home.
So I go home and was second-guessing everything I had done during the night - you know, normal me kinda stuff. I park the bike in front of my apartment window, under the flood light, lock the steering column, and go inside. I promptly fell sound asleep. My phone wakes me up and I see it's the neighbor (who happens to be blind) calling. I was too slow to catch the call so I called back and he said he heard people messing around outside.
So I look out the window at the now-empty street and my empty parking spot.
Did I park somewhere else? I was still feeling tipsy and I wasn't sure so I ran outside and there was my motorcycle - 20 feet away, sideways, laying in the middle of the street.
There were parts all around that had broken off, and I assumed while walking up to it that they had dropped it out of the back of the truck while trying to steal it. Lousy bastards...
Well I went back to bed after calling the cops and waiting for about thirty minutes. My neighbor waited with me but I felt bad making him miss sleep so I said we should both go to bed and they'd knock when they finally got around to coming.
About an hour of sweet sleep later I woke to a knock on the door and I went out and explained the issue.
So I learned that the first time my insurance was not good enough, so I elected to pay for the better insurance that covers theft and by coincidence (aka force) it also covers damages done by others. It was only $25 extra to make it a $100 deductible too! I have not even paid the increase premium yet though!
And so here is where I am HOPING the good karma will come through. It was a really good buy that I got, getting a 2012 motorcycle with only 5100 miles on it for only $3 grand - it also had never been dropped or crashed.
Now it HAS been dropped, while it was stolen, in addition to them breaking the wheel lock thing that helps prevent and deter theft (definitely a bummer). So it's actually likely to be cheaper to buy a replacement bike instead of repairing this one. When I check the NADA blue book for the values (it seems irrefutable it was in fantastic condition) it sells retail for around $79xx.00!! If it's off the secondary market it's still $58xx.00!!
So it seems to me that they SHOULD pay the retail price, since the private market involves more personal risk to me - risk that I had successfully avoided with my prior purchase.
Now here comes the fun part - again very speculative but I think still good.
They will likely "total" the bike - and cut me a check for it. But I do my own repairs! I grew up racing these silly things so it's not too difficult to repair the NECESSITIES, while ignoring the finer points - which where VERY NICE to enjoy, but perhaps when offered these two eventualities I might choose a different path than a perfect bike.
I can buy this one back for salvage prices (I'm hoping like $400 -$800?, total guess) and then I have to RE register it. (I just bought plates for $320 and they only lasted 3 days before this and they will not transfer without re registering the new salvaged title. I also just had done the registration in mid April for the first bike for $240 and received only $2 credit from the DMV.
It seems like the city is trying to hurt me more than the thieves!
But so I'm hoping it essentially replaces the bike I had IN SPIRIT (now it's a bike that's been damaged, kinda like my first one that was stolen), while at the same time enabling me to still continue saving for a better vehicle once the snow starts to fall!
It might be very good news!
Plus I'm undoubtedly going to win the powerball within 2 months, so I have that going for me too. :p
