People on the Spectrum

Should be treated better. Discriminating against disabled people should come to an end.

My mom, whom I thought was not like that, turned out to be like that.

About a decade ago, I had a friend move into our garage, because it was that or living under a bridge. One of the things he complained about to me was that my mom would get mad that he wasn't helping with the dishes, but she wouldn't tell him how she wanted them loaded in the dishwasher. She would just get frustrated and do it herself when he didn't know. She didn't grasp the basic concept that he wouldn't learn unless she told him. The way he put it to me was that she expected him to read her mind.

When I told my mom that if she expected him to understand how she wanted the dishes loaded, she needed to tell him, she responded, "I shouldn't have to do that!"

Yet she has always claimed to understand.

@LordShadowfire I’ve seen movies and tv shows that would indicate that’s no a spectrum thing but an adult female thing.

@Greyjedi of just a female thing.

@Greyjedi I understand that. I'm saying she didn't understand his autism well enough to set aside her adult female thing. She did not respect his disability.

@LordShadowfire Ah! Yes I see.
