I Lost a Friend

I had a friend that i have known since 8th grade. Dementia/Alzheimer's runs in her family. Her grandmother, mother and then she got the dreaded disease. Her mother and grandmother were ill a long time. I told her i would visit her when i came up for our reunion. She had been diagnosed a year earlier.

The day of the party, the assisted living staff found her non responsive in the hallway. She was taken to the hospital. I visited her there and we had a good conversation. The next day, they found her on her hands and knees crawling in the hallway of the hospital. They put her to bed and she had a grand mal seizure. The MRI showed no tumors and only mild frontal lobe disintegration.

Her daughter asked that a medicine be discontinued because it was giving her trouble. On Saturday night, she stopped breathing and was pronounced dead at 12:04AM.

I am so grateful I got to see her and so sad to lose my friend.
My most heartfelt condolences. I'm so sorry. 😞
@akindheart Isn't that the truth. Yes we never know but I'm so glad you got to talk to her. I'm glad the poor lady is out of pain although I'm sorry that she passed.

My deepest condolences. My mom died from it 7 years ago. I hope it passes me by!
akindheart · 61-69, F
@BeJeweled that is one mean vicious disease. the body works but the mind is destroyed. it got my friends grandmother, mother and then her. she has a daughter. i hope she takes heed

My condolences, so sad.

It does seem.more common in females. It is horrible to watch someone you love deteriorate that way.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@akindheart good, i am feeling a little bit. I have had a bad allergy/pneumonia. I bet you look great! 😈
akindheart · 61-69, F
@samueltyler2 i am working on new carpet in the house and i am exhausted...i hope you feel better.

So sorry for the loss of your friend. Alzheimer’s is a terrible disease. My mom passed in 2012 with it, as well as some other issues. My older sister and a younger brother are living with it now. So sad!
akindheart · 61-69, F
@TravisTx omg. how terrible. this seems to follow the female line except that was all who were born...no males. i told my friends daughter to prepare herself. she has chosen to not have children and undergo testing
Condolences. I remember when you wrote about her here previously. Now she has peace. That is what counts. I am glad she went peacefully.
@akindheart It is irrelevant now. She has peace. That is comforting to everyone, I believe. I find that demented people run down like old clocks. At some point, they just stop working. Their bodies give up. This I feel from my nearly 30 years of nursing, heart.
akindheart · 61-69, F
@PoetryNEmotion i knew you would have witnessed this kind of thing.
@akindheart I focus upon the peace. My mom was demented for a few years. Peace is what she desired. Her time came. She got it. So did those of us who loved her and tended her. The rest? Gullty and loud sobs. Karma.

Wow, I know so much of this sad story. Please accept my condolences and may she now rest in peace.
akindheart · 61-69, F
@WillaKissing i thought we had more time. it is like they stopped the meds and she stopped breathing. just like that.
WillaKissing · 56-60
@akindheart Sweetheart I believe people quit looking to exist in clear thinking moments like this and I believe she was seeking to leave instead of going through what her past relatives had.
akindheart · 61-69, F
@WillaKissing i think you are right...completely correct
