Why can anxious and self guarded body language come off as arrogant?

I just think it's kinda interesting, because that type of anxiety usually comes from feeling lesser than everyone and desperate to avoid conflict or negative reactions, yet it seems to invite the type of reactions they're terrified of.

But that type of boby language is a natural response for self protection,
Not to attack, not to ward off, but to be unnoticed and hide... So I'm wondering, why does that have the universal potential to communicate otherwise?

I guess it's because sometimes it's similar to the body language of real cold, arrogant people and it's hard to distinguish between the two. 😅 Or maybe some people are offended by the distrust because they don't want to be seen as potentially dangerous to others. If you have social phobia, you're basically scared of another person. Why? What do I know why? But they might take it personally that you feel anxious around them. Some people were weirded out when I told them I felt that way.

I was thinking about it, for example the real reasons why it's hard to say hello. Why do we feel anxious and want to be small and invisible? Or maybe we don't want to be bothered, we don't want to draw someone's attention to us, if we won't talk to them, they will leave us alone. Which is basically rejection of them as persons from our side. 😅 Impoliteness, social rudeness because we are supposed to greet people to show them respect or something like that. At least that's how it was explained to me. Like people want to be acknowledged and they don't care if you're just arrogant or literally can't get any sound out because your throat is closed from anxiety, they will interpret is as arrogance because you didn't acknowledge their presence.

Same with short, curt replies. I heard it's often interpreted like they are not worth more to you or something like that. Idk, some people are evidently anxious, they sweat, their voice shakes etc. Others really just look reserved and hostile.

Body language is an outdated concept and one who regards it as a language is outdated too. Today it's an outspoken world in text. You get noticed by the way you write.
