Cynophobia, the fear of dogs.

One of the unforgettable events that shook my childhood was watching a close friend of mine being attacked by a canine. I still remember him getting bitten and torn apart. I witnessed the horrific scene, helplessly standing frozen and traumatized. I was completely fogged out that I was unable to shout or call for help. We were just six, walking back home after an evening's game in a playground nearby. And out of nowhere, an Indian Pariah jumped upon us and made my friend stumble. The dog started to maul him. There was no one around for aid. The horror only came to an end when a scooter rider noticed us. And somehow, he managed to frighten away the Pariah. Subsequently he took us to the hospital then informed our parents. My friend had to take rabies vaccines. This incident left me scarred so deeply, that it made me to fear dogs. I was so afraid that I couldn't even tolerate the vicinity of a canine. After many years of surviving with the dreaded cynophobia my ex-girlfriend managed to put an end to this fear of mine. She was a dog lover and owned a German Shepherd. As you'd imagine, in the beginning it was so hard for me to cope with the dog situation. But for her love I tamed my fear and cuddled the damn dog. Anyway, both she and her dog left me for good. And everything happens for a reason. Today I don't own a dog, but my fear of these animals is no more.
