Do you know of any psychological "tricks" that work for good purposes?

I've read these tips once. When someone is enraged for some reason, you can calm them down by doing the following:

At first, try to match their tone of voice.

Talk as if you're mad too, while NOT disagreeing with them at this point.

If you truly agree then express your agreement and support readily. It will make them feel as if you've got their back.

Then gradually tone your voice down and de-escalate.

Table are turned.

They will (subconsciously) try to mimic your tone now.

Eventually try to distract them from the topic that angered them in the 1st place to help them lighten up a bit. Humor can work well here.

You may address the issue with them later in a more logical way, after they've calmed down.

Well, I've tried this on the people that I care about and it's worked very well indeed.

It's called Mirror and Match. Sales 101

I guess so. I've read it in Arabic so I wasn't sure about the technical term in English.

Any other sales 101 tips you can share with us? @HoraceGreenley

@SW-User Always ask for the order, i.e., what you want.

If you get a "No" ask again. Odds increase to a yes each each time you ask up to 5 times.

@HoraceGreenley 'cept it doesn't work on someone who already knows the trick, and can even have the opposite effect.

I was never fond of salesmen before; then I tried being one a while (not very good at it), now I hate them even more... 🤔

@HoraceGreenley What do you get if the thing you originally ask for isn't in stock?
HoraceGreenley · 56-60, M
@wildbill83 I have a little bit of sales experience from a long time ago. The thing is you can't be so blunt about it.

@GeniUs If you're selling then you should know what is in stock

@HoraceGreenley I think I'd be annoyed if someone was persistent like that, but hey, if they do it subtly then who knows.

@SW-User That is the art. Being subtle

@HoraceGreenley Yes but you ask, I say it isn't in stock, you keep asking it still isn't in stock.

@HoraceGreenley I tried being a car salesman at dealership once... I found it difficult to sell a trade in to someone with a $5-10k markup and pretend you're giving them the deal of a lifetime...
