In general, But alcohol had a way of bringing confidence until id turn sloppy.
Id say patience and thoroughness is elevated with prolonged sobtiety. My double check (follow up and self correction) and thoroughness\attention to detail and clarity is much improved without drinking\ inebriation.
And i sleep better sober (though it is more difficult to fall asleep; at times). Also the "thrill" of drinking goes away as we age.
I had a brain tumor so i also drank to cope with ongoing lack of care (accessibility)

It works the other way around too. When you are confident, you eat healthy and don't drink..
If you like Bowie watch some interviews, at points he refers to his drinking days and not drinking any more.
For me it helped tremendously to stop all these destructive and poisonous stuff, by finding someone who was very inspiring for me and I watched him continuously talking about how bad these shit are lol
As for a very long time I've been only surrounded by people and messages that were only telling me how helpful, cool, mind opening, relaxing and so on and so forth these substances are.

In my school we believe that for certain qualities to arise, certain others are to be allowed to let go.. a work in progress and pleasures are there, they just change form! Change takes time and wants some consistency..

@being that's really interesting. We believe that what we experience in the physical world must be enjoyed as much as the spiritual. Because when the world is created anew, both will be part of it in the more perfect creation.

I eat very healthy these days.
While I've been vegetarian since 2003, I wasn't a healthy vegetarian. I'm now on a vegetarian Mediterranean diet.
I do drink, but far less than I used.
I'll still keep drinking and smoking herb though. I'll never be a clean living guy and I don't want to be. As Lynyrd Skynyrd said "Lord, I can't change".
