How do you describe the difference between jealousy and envy? 🤔

Similarname · 46-50, M
“Jealousy and envy both involve a feeling of desire for what another person has, but jealousy is usually thought to be more negative—it often involves resentment toward the other person. Envy is also a negative feeling—like a mix of admiration and discontent—but the word doesn’t usually imply hostility. Another difference is that envy can be used as both a noun and a verb.”

“Although both can involve uncomfortable feelings of desire for something you want, jealousy can include resentment, suspicion, and protectiveness and envy involves a mix of admiration and discontent.”

Envy doesn’t require a loathing painful emotion, but jealously does. Also, people tend to be jealous of the person. Envy can be more diffuse. I’m envious you went on vacation, for example. Maybe a little jealously, maybe a lot.
