Antisemitism vs. Mental Health

So I guess when mental health and antisemitism square off there's a clear cut winner. Guy lost his job of ten years, that required supervision, for doing something he apparently thought was conveying something else. Maybe some can't let an opportunity to feel persecuted get in the way of common sense and forgiveness.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — The Madison Children's Museum has fired a Wisconsin man with cognitive disabilities after he wore an Adolf Hitler costume over the Halloween weekend.

The museum said the man believed he was making a mockery of the Nazi Party's leader when he wore the costume on a busy street near the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus on Saturday. He was fired Tuesday night, after his costume was condemned on social media and by some news outlets, including the Jerusalem Post.

The museum said in a statement that it fired the man after it “determined that his continued employment would create an environment at odds with our values and unwelcoming to visitors and staff.” The statement said the man's costume was “completely unacceptable" and that the museum stands against antisemitism, bigotry and discrimination.

The museum also said the man has cognitive disabilities due to a traumatic brain injury and that his work over the last decade has been supervised.

“It is our understanding that he believed his costume to be mocking Hitler,” the statement said.

The problem with the perpetually offended of this world is the ever moving goalposts.

Dress up as Hitler, you must be supporting him and his ideas, dress up as Sitting Bull and you're obviously ridiculing Native Americans.

They'll shift their stance to whatever position they need to so they can have the biggest meltdown.

Watching The Producers would melt their tiny minds 😒

@Whodunnit I've been saying that for years. Just because you dress up as somebody, that doesn't mean you worship that person, and it also doesn't necessarily mean you're making fun. Context, peeps!
Whodunnit · M
@LordShadowfire Exactly. Unfortunately context has been replaced by knee jerk reactions and sound bite media.

@Whodunnit Great point. What's tough for me to see is that those seeking grievance, irrespective of what the grievance is, are contributing to separation and are ultimately hurting their 'cause' in the process.
A good current example are the climate 'activists" doing things like throwing paint on artwork and letting air out of the tires of SUV's. I'm ALL in with climate awareness but those people are freaking disgusting to me. They HURT the effort just so they can be seen. It's why I'm no longer a liberal. When it got turned in to "Progressive," which lives online, I was done. Wasn't about the issues any more. It was about "look at me."

@Ynotisay I totally understand where you are coming from. There are a couple of 'causes' I've supported in the past whose ideologies and practices have drifted so far from my own I can no longer in good conscience support them. Not surprisingly they too have drifted into the deep dark waters of alleged progressivism.
Ynotisay · M
@Whodunnit Yep. And what's doubly hard is that those issues that really do matter are dismissed under the guise of the "liberal agenda." Liberals are not, by any stretch, running the show on the Hill. They're a small minority. Just like Liberals overall. But there is no Democratic Party as far as a lot of Republicans and most every Conservative is concerned. It's become the "Far Left." Those with common sense, decency and a desire of bettering lives are left floating in the ocean. It's wrong.
Whodunnit · M
@Ynotisay I honestly believe both sidea are as bad as each other, but I've always been very close to centre politically.

Mind you, I read a theory the other day that centrists are also right-wing 😆

That's the oroblem we face currently. If you are not wholeheartedly in lockstep with the groupthink of either side you're automatically the enemy.

The world has become incredibly divided, in fact EVERY issue is divisive, and I'm starting to think it's by design rather than a natural progression.
Ynotisay · M
@Whodunnit Good point. Could be a natural progression. Humanity is full of examples. Although I think the internet has exasperated it. Today, lies are are as good as truth for way too many. Belief is more important than reality. Say something enough times and it becomes true. That's hard to watch.
But I'm not on board with both sides being equally "bad." Policies and actions show that to be the case for me. But I do think something needs to change. We're on an unsustainable path. Maybe we'll mature as a species and start get a handle on things. Don't think that'll happen tomorrow though.
@Whodunnit I’m offended I’m offended ..it’s a witch hunt..it’s a hoax..oh poor me poor me
@Ynotisay
It's why I'm no longer a liberal.
Isn’t that "throwing the baby out with the bath water" ? So to speak ? I still support old school feminism, for example, even though the newer folks are nuts. And I still support civil rights even with crazy fools like BHI out there.
Ynotisay · M
@bijouxbroussard Yeah. Maybe. But as I've gotten older I've become more interested in legislative actions than screaming for magic wands that don't exist. My take on issues hasn't really changed but I have no connection to how they're approached. I find it counter-productive.
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
@Ynotisay So, crazy thought. Organize some effective protest measures. Show the youngsters how it's done.
Ynotisay · M
@LordShadowfire But it's pointless. Those youngsters KNOW how it's done. At least according to them. That's what comes with youth. It's the time in our lives when emotion meets arrogance.
What I'd be more interested in is finding a way to get the 50% of people 18-29 to actually VOTE. But there's nothing to be done there either. You either do or you don't.
