Easiest to look up the meaning of diagnose.
diagnose
dī′əg-nōs″, -nōz″
intransitive verb

[c=000000]To distinguish or identify[/c] (a disease, for example) [c=000000]by diagnosis.
[/c]
To identify (a person) as having a particular disease or condition by means of a diagnosis.

[c=000000]To analyze the nature or cause of.[/c]
When any professional "distinguishes or identifies" a problem they have diagnosed the problem or identified the problem.

The field of profession doesn't matter.

@DeWayfarer yes but there is legal and official recognised diagnosis, otherwise their diagnosis is just opinion

@Patientlywaiting no! "Professional" testimony of diagnosis is well recognized even throughout the legal profession all around the world.

Again the profession doesn't matter. You either are recognized as a professional or not recognized as a professional. That's the only qualification.

That's the legal system just by itself.

Now there might be a concern as to whether a "psychiatrist" is a legal profession.

That's a different subject though.

If you are considered a "professional" you actually must diagnosis to be a professional.

@DeWayfarer well I'm thinking here about just the UK. It's obviously necessary that any diagnosis is recognised is you need that diagnosis as evidence to get support such as an EHCP I don't know what the equivalent would be else where in the world but it was needed that the diagnosis was recognised to get this in Britain.

@Patientlywaiting Gathering evidence is apart of the process of diagnosis. You can not diagnose without evidence.

This is the scientific methodology at work.

See the "scientific methodology" that, as well, is used throughout the world. Even in China.

@DeWayfarer By 'evidence' I mean as a way to obtain disability benefits or other support. You don't always need a diagnosis for benefits but if you have one, it's officially recognised by a registered medical professional and not your next door neighbours cat, it goes a long way towards supporting your claim.

@Patientlywaiting politics verses science.

I doubt the two will ever agree no matter where. 😞

The world would be so much better if science took precedents. Politics has so much basis religion or "beliefs", even in the case of China (Taoism), and therefore it's contrary to science.

In the case of your cat example it's evident the a cat is not a human. Apples and oranges. In science it wouldn't even be brought up. X is not Y is not Z and so forth.

@DeWayfarer I'm a Christian. I believe there are many examples in the Bible where information about our world was given and not backed up by science until many years later.

@Patientlywaiting well we will have to agree to disagree then.

I emphatically believe religion is the cause of a good majority of the worlds problems and that everything else is just plain ignorance. Which can be good or bad.
Patientlywaiting · 46-50, F
@DeWayfarer I 100% agree that "religion" is the route of many world problems however, "religion" is not the same as God. Of course, I respect your right to make your own opinions and I will not force mine on you.

As a serious side to this, if you (or anyone else?) Would like to hear my testimony about Jesus. I would definitely be open to sharing that. Please message me if so. X

@Patientlywaiting by study and experience alone I am likely more qualified to be ordained in any number of beliefs including some Christian beliefs.

I was a member of such a cult once that want me to do so.

I consider many christian beliefs all cults. They are not the only ones.

@DeWayfarer As I said, I respect your right to believe whatever you want. Blessings to you anyway x
