Why do creeps hang out in laundromats?

I have laundry piled up, partly because I'm incontinent. But I can't find a reliable laundry service to do my laundry. I'd do it myself at a coin laundry but those places are so creepy. These weird looking guys stare at me (or any woman there) and ask me personal questions like where do I live and do I have a boyfriend. The answers don't matter; they just keep asking stuff. I never feel safe in these situations. A few hours of that and I'm a nervous wreck for days. My laundry is piling up now. I have 5 sacks of laundry and 2 very dirty quilts. I am running out of clean clothes and sheets and towels. Either I keep trying to find a reliable pickup laundry or I face those jerks at the laundrymat. Any suggestions? About the creeps, please don't tell me to "just ignore them" because it does no good. They keep staring and keep persisting at personal conversations no matter how clear you make it that you don't want to pay attention to them. Sometimes they begin asking about your religion, another personal subject. Sometimes they carry a Bible and/or religious pamphlets and ask you a question about the Bible or Christianity. Very annoying. I try not to answer. Sometimes moving doesn't help; they follow you across the laundromat. It's amazing how often they don't even seem to be doing any laundry. Are they just there to hassle women? It would appear so.

Can you wear earbuds and look as mean as humanly possible? Alpha them down. No words. Just a death glare. Let them know you aren't open to their mess.

UPDATE:

A friend of mine invited me to her condo where she has a washing machine and a dryer. I finally got my laundry done!

Because they can. Laundromats generally have places to sit, many have vending machines for snacks & drinks, and restrooms. They know people will come in with their laundry and wait while it washes and dries. Can approach them and try to make conversation. If there is no manager or other worker on the premises then they basically have free reign to hang around.

Go with a pal is all I can think of, if you're not willing to just tell them to f-off. You have to be more aggressive than they are when you do it, so it might not be for you.

Put on some earphones when you do your laundry . That’s what I do..

@SW-User Thanks for the suggestion. I'll try it.

Get a washing machine at your place - problem solved

@nedkelly I live in a roominghouse and there is a washing machine and dryer here. But I can't figure out how to work them.

Answer in a foreign language or pretend your English is limited.

Do you have a neighbour or a friend you can confide in who could maybe go with you one day and tell them to leave you alone
That’s so horrible you should be able to there without being interrogated
greenmountaingal · 70-79, F
@Carlisle Unfortunately, I do not have anyone who would be willing to go with me.

@checkoutanytime I don't get it. What would their politics have to do with it? I'm not convinced these creeps are smart enough to form political views. And I'm a moderate.
