What is the music genre of your preference to calm you down when you're upset?

SledgeHammer · 46-50, M
When I'm upset... I dont go straight to the "clam down" music... No! I go fast into the angry, mad music so I can grab that with my madness to level myself out that I wont go any higher in rage.

That music is more like FFDP,RONNIE JAMES DIO,KORN,DISTURBED,you know, shit like that!

Once I'm there face to face with myself, I use the same bands with the music that shifts down like Black Sabbath,Korn,Man Againt Machine,FFDP and whine down..

Long story short I end up mellowed out to Led-Zeppelin then sweet calmness with them good Oldies smoking some herb and chugging down some Heineken..

Ahhhhhh....
........ Life is good!

My playlist looks as if has an identity crisis . Sometimes I drown in the melancholic, or even those that were once sentimental but no longer meaningful like the illusory moments attached to them. Other times, it's the distorted screams of hardcore metal, and even the ethereal found in gothic metal, or the bluesy rhythm of folk/country. But NOTHING heals my soul more than guitar riffs, and ONLY those riffs, especially those of Zakk Wylde. It's all dependent on the mood and emotion. And often, I need to OVERLY feel that emotion just to unleash it in the form of tears. The list is ever changing, and just like me, a total a conundrum in and of itself...

Oh yeah, I had to come back and say I hope you're in better spirits today. Chin up buttercup.😉

@MoonlightLullaby You're like me in this aspect as well. I listen to everything and everything.

Sometimes the unexpected music lift me up.

Haha I feel better today. Thank you so much my friend 🤗
ArishMell · 70-79, M
@MoonlightLullaby Yes - the guitar, and the tones possible with the electric guitar, can be very expressive.

Orchestral and other music often very loosely called "classical". Much of it is not Classical but of styles from Baroque, sometimes earlier, to contemporary.

Not only if upset but it's also my preference when driving long distances in difficult conditions, to help keep me calm.

I don't have my own selection of music for this, but rely on the far greater range offered by Radio Three, which also has the bonus of being very friendly and welcoming, and treating listeners as intelligent grown-ups.

(I don't mind 1960s-70s pop music, that of my generation after all, but I find pop radio, including day-time Radio Two, stress-raising rather than calming. It's not the music that annoys me, though I don't like the modern styles anyway, but being patronised by the intervening, artificially cheery, blether.)

Symphonic metal. ⚡
Beatbox34 · 31-35, M
@odonisu Nice. For me it's metal and death metal.
Busybee333 · 31-35, F
@odonisu alternatively, some people who like relaxing instrumentals.. also like symphonic metal xD
Riemann · 31-35, M
I don't listen to music anymore. I sit down or lay down, stop everything, close my eyes and just stay chill.
Beatbox34 · 31-35, M
@Riemann Music may not calm everyone but it does help me.
Riemann · 31-35, M
@Beatbox34 It used to but due to my religion, I left it. The sound of nothing is much deeper.
Beatbox34 · 31-35, M
@Riemann To be able to keep a steady mind in silence is itself a gift. That's closer to meditation.

@Jenny1234 You have any recommendations?
Jenny1234 · 51-55, F
@Beatbox34 the Cure, LL Cool J, the Clash, Psychadelic Furs, Gogos, Run DMC, UTFO, Queen, David Bowie
An example. Probably not your thing, but I listen to it while I’m getting organized; it both energizes me and soothes my nerves.

I don't have just one... I just listen to whatever sounds good at the time. I can say it won't be heavy metal. lol I think by now you've gotten that idea. :)
Beatbox34 · 31-35, M
@SW-User That is all that is needed sometimes. The right tune and the irony is we relate to the lyrics when we were emotional.

@Beatbox34 you?
Beatbox34 · 31-35, M
@Iwillwait The opposite man. I listen to Marilyn Manson, A perfect Circle, motionless in white and HIM.

I know they're anti religious songs given I'm a Christian but they have a way of keeping me calm.
Iwillwait · M
@Beatbox34 I used to jam to Manson all the time, "Mechanical Animals," was my fave back then. I'm in a totally different headspace nowadays. However, Rob Zombie comes on the radio by chance and I will rock to that too. 🙂
