Is it true that...

If you take medicine when you're not sick, it will make you sick? 馃

Or was this just a scare tactic i was told as a kid to not take medicine i dont need

It depends on the type of meds. A painkiller wouldn't make much of a difference if you're not in pain, but something to lower your blood pressure when it is at a good level may make it too low for example.
@NerdyPotato so if i drink pepto bismol daily and casually will i have a super stomach and not get tummy aches anymore?

@PetalsOfLilac that may not be such a good idea...
Long-term use (greater than six weeks) may lead to accumulation and toxicity. Some of the risks of salicylism can apply to the use of bismuth subsalicylate.
The risks of salicylism:
The classic symptoms are ringing in the ears, nausea, abdominal pain, and a fast breathing rate. Early on, these may be subtle, while larger doses may result in fever. Complications can include swelling of the brain or lungs, seizures, low blood sugar, or cardiac arrest.
I'd advise against it. I know, for example, that Ibuprofen can lead to gastric issues if taken over a long period of time, and I'm sure other medication has its own issues,

It can't generally make you sick unless you overdose or use specific medication that isn't intended for you. Viruses and bacteria and medical conditions make you sick.
