It's like a fire. It burns until it runs out of fuel. If it's never fed by hope or fulfillment, eventually it will fizzle out. Some flames can be reignited but some don't ever come back. Some are afraid of that fire going out again and having to relive that hollowing coldness again. Some simply don't want to dedicate their time to it, and in this day and age, dedication of time is necessary for it. Some never want it at all.
I'd say that fundamentally, the urge to find that special someone lasts as long as you want it to. Even the weakest flame can still burn if it has the will to keep burning.

There's significantly less drama and difficulty in life without a relationship.
(I kinda gave up on love, it hurts and people suck; plus it costs significantly less to be on your own.)
