How can I volunteer and get involved? In live in Georgia (state in USA, not the country) and wanna get involved in something like this. I have volunteered for local homeless shelters but honestly feel like my efforts there were pointless tbh.

Scroll to remote volunteering in the MSF for those in states far from the main office. There is a waiting list.

To increase your chances of getting selected, try to take relevant courses like hostile environment awareness training, first aid and CPR certification, DisasterReady courses, security management in volatile situations..etc a good CV helps a lot espacially if you're not in healthcare related work.
Also check out the international rescue committee in your state, call them and inquire about future opportunities.
Someone else mentioned peace corps but I think you are already familiar with it.
When you get selected for volunteer team, make sure to check out scholarships for volunteers as lot of programs are poorly funded and need you to rely on your own resources.

I used to live there. What part of Mali is he from?

@Miram I was in the Peace Corps. I lived about 60 miles south of the capital.
The north is where all the fighting is. I can't imagine why someone would go there unless that's where they were from. Do you happen to know his ethnicity or what his native language is?

If you been in peace corps, i think you are already aware that there were outsider people before the crisis who lived there already, kidnappings happen and people cross to Northern countries from their sub saharan countries through Mali. He seems to speak bobo and bit of Tamazight lingua. I am half touareg. I don't think he is from the north originally.

@Miram I was there in the late 1980s. At the time, there was still a great deal of bitterness in the northern part of the country, where after independence, the people in that area attempted to secede and were brutally put down by the central government. Once you get north of Mopti, it feels more like northern than sub-saharan Africa.
Interesting combination, by the way. Bobo are mostly in the southeast while Amazigh or Tuareg are in the north. I was in the southwest which was mostly Bambara with a few Fulani, Senoufo, and Dogons that the Catholic Church had moved there.

I have no doubt you'll always be doing good for the world wherever you are and need to be.

Here we have refugees lately from Syria , Yemen , Palestine and Sudan . I was in cairo streets walking looking at sudanese refugees face and it was painful for real . I can't forget the broken look of their face . I hate war and I curse it for the rest of my life.

@Miram Thank you for calling me this name. You know I love it when somebody calls me this name. My past self flashed for instance to be honest. You know thinking through the life we got together makes me feel that we have something like a mental electrical circuit in common. May be because you are an ambidextrous and me is a leftie . I would never think of that we could made it better because I appreciate what we have already. Consider that since the first day I knew you I felt like starring . I never related to a person like that before. I could have made friends with anybody here or just leave the whole website but you glanced in my life and I really appreciate it. The only thing I regret is that I knew you while I was struggling. May be someone called Me before was a better person for you to know other than the monster I was since 2013 . I am hoping to calm down someday and not to be a source of pain to anybody anymore. I hope God and people who got depressed because of the state I was in be able to forgive me completely. I never meant to hurt them , I was triggered badly to experience things I haven't been through in my life before. I am looking forward to forgiving myself to and being easy to it. I really regret that people felt for me . I feel that I could take it all without involving people other than me . I think I would be better too. But it happened already كما لو لم يكن هناك مفر. I don't like to hurt anybody and I found that the unintentional hurt may be more painful sometimes than the intentional

@Moh1992 Do not worry about things and events that happened between us. In the grand scheme of things, whatever bad that occured was small and I have forgiven you long time ago. I care about you, your loved ones and I wish you nothing but joy. I do think we all met for a reason and I am deeply grateful for it. 🤍🤍 You are good person and a great doctor. And was many times a great friend.

You have to take care of your own well being and you have people that count on you. You’re helping the people there so you’re doing good work Miram.
I understand this feeling but please know you are where you should be.
