Today I treated a refugee from Mali, and my heart hurt because I thought of the millions like him in the world.

And I felt very depressed and had the urge to apply again and volunteer with the NGO.

But I have loved ones now who count on me. I won't be only risking my own life and plans. And I am not sure an intention from desperation and despair is wise. I might relapse into the mental state I suffered for years, unable to accept helplessness.

I am sad for anyone who doesn't have the resources I have, the love, the hope and the care. And I wish I could fix it. I wish there was a way to absorb all the hurt in this cruel world.

How can I volunteer and get involved? In live in Georgia (state in USA, not the country) and wanna get involved in something like this. I have volunteered for local homeless shelters but honestly feel like my efforts there were pointless tbh.

@BRUUH It is not pointless. The homeless need us too.

If you want to volunteer internationally, find an international organization that aligns with your interests and skills and register in their local office first. You can also apply online to many of them. Getting sent abroad will involve long term training lot of times depending on the position you are after.
@Miram Can you help me do this? Like, links, or organizations you know?

To increase your chances of getting selected, try to take relevant courses like hostile environment awareness training, first aid and CPR certification, DisasterReady courses, security management in volatile situations..etc a good CV helps a lot espacially if you're not in healthcare related work.

Also check out the international rescue committee in your state, call them and inquire about future opportunities.

Someone else mentioned peace corps but I think you are already familiar with it.

When you get selected for volunteer team, make sure to check out scholarships for volunteers as lot of programs are poorly funded and need you to rely on your own resources.
@Miram I'm from Savannah GA. The Brunswick one is probably closest.
