Has journaling helped you?

It's always given as advice. I've often started one, but not been able to keep it up. I think some of it has to do with my phone. I just eventually spend my free time staring into this black hole instead. Also when I journal, my hand doesn't last long before it hurts going all the way up my arm from writing. I think I fractured some knuckles or once or twice and now it causes pain up to my elbow with too much repetitive use, and when it gets cold, that makes it hurt sometimes. But yeah. Journaling just hasn't really worked for me. It also kind of gives me anxiety because every detail has to be written, and I'm realizing tonight that's probably an OCD thing. I'll get frustrated or overwhelmed because I feel I need to put so much into it. Idk

Normal journaling didn't help me, but scrapbook journaling has helped at times.. Just putting all my thoughts, feelings and emotions into pages of pictures and quotes basically, like this;

It also helps me stay focused longer, 'cause I find it more interesting than writing by hand..

@Cassieeeee I wish there would be 100% guarantee that if I did this, nobody apart from myself would ever see it.

This is really nice! So creative! 😊. I bet your journal is awesome.
I suppose it can be therapeutic. That's not something I would do. I like to keep my deepest thoughts to myself. Private. Not somewhere where it can be found and held against me. If you believe in such things, I have a scorpio personality.

Not at all, I would write when really really low or negative and then read what I had written on those days and make myself feel even worse.

I tried it years ago but didn't find it that worked for me. Putting things on paper didn't help me deal with them any better.
I wonder if you might get some value in doing physical pen/paper journaling instead of digital. digital's faster and more easily retrieved; but I'm not sure those elements are of much help in what journaling is supposed to help you with.

I'm not sure if I see much benefit in doing it myself; I'm very inconsistent and most of what I end up writing down is just 'meh, today sucks and most things are stupid', but doing it on real paper with a real pen seems to be more effective for me than attempts to type things in.

No. I stopped. I think I'm missing some important point in it. It reminds me of constantly talking about doing something but never really getting to it. Like a pat on a shoulder "oh, okay I did my part for today, I wrote some notes, I can sleep well." Well, no, to me it's just another distraction. Besides, I know what is in my head, how putting it on a paper gives it any other meaning?

@CrazyMusicLover I feel very closely to this as well.

Yes, it's therapeutic and cathartic

not journaling, but venting out what's in me, and for a long time that was poetry, it gave me time to think and ruminate. i can take the mess in me and try to make something i don't hate
I've never tried it. I think I would find it kind of nauseating seeing all my shit written down, but then I'm highly critical of myself on some levels.

I stopped when I was a teenager but it wasn’t bad at all. It’s pretty cool reading those thoughts now many years later.
Yes it has
I'd rather journal than talk to someone. I find talking to someone doesn't help me personally...
It does help me, but I don’t re-read my entries. I just journal to get it out

I don't do it consistently but it's nice as an outlet sometimes to get thoughts out. I mostly just write in my notes app or as posts on here sometimes
Yes.
I started in January, affirmations etc.. each morning. It calmed me
