@Birdbox1986 🤔... I was under the impression that the ghetto was another word for the slums.
Birdbox1986 · 31-35, F

Birdbox1986 · 31-35, F

No. I live north of the river. The ghetto is south of the river.

Does Canada have a ghetto?
Birdbox1986 · 31-35, F
@Jenny1234 yes every where
Justmeraeagain · 56-60, F
Not considered a ghetto, but it was pretty bad.
Had a stabbing down the street, and a man next door had a large squad of police cars come to his house; he did not return for as long as I lived there.

I lived in a lower class Spanish hood for several years when I was a young adult . It was still safe though.
Lived in Manhattan for several years near housing projects but they kept the dysfunction contained .

In the U.S., some people refer to any urban immigrant neighborhood, usually with people speaking a language other than English, as a ghetto. If that is what is meant, I lived in such a neighborhood until I was eight and a half years old .
The term is often used pejoratively. In contrast, the people who lived there at the time, and their descendants who live there today, would not feel negatively about the place at all. In fact, there is a sense of cultural pride about the place . None of the residents or former residents would ever call it a ghetto.
For most of my life, I have heard the word primarily used to refer to poor Black neighborhoods. I have never lived there.

@DrWatson My city is a melting pot in part due to a university being located here. My neighborhood is even a melting pot.
