I used to think that, but now if money wasn't an issue, give me a detached house miles from anybody!

Fungirlmmm51-55, F
I like to visit the city but I am a country girl

@Fungirlmmm i have a lady friend like that too...she will always be a country girl but loves coming to the big city from time to time. she seems totally lost when she visits...then again this city slicker would be lost on her farm 馃ぃ
CrazyMusicLover31-35
Yes but not way too different environment. For example, I can't imagine moving to a place where it's normal to encounter deadly poisonous snakes, spiders or bugs. I guess it's not very safe for a person who didn't grow up there being taught what to look out for.
Or somewhere where 40掳C is the standard temperature.

I also can't imagine living in a big city like New York or Tokyo. I guess one can get used to it but I'd probably have a problem to even fall asleep in such noise at first.
Starcrossed41-45, F
@CrazyMusicLover ^^^all of this.

CrazyMusicLover31-35
@Starcrossed Exactly, lol. If I saw a snake like that at home I'd die. 馃槅
Starcrossed41-45, F
@CrazyMusicLover omg me too. I can barely tolerate a little garter snake.

I was raised in a small town and the country. I went to college and grad school in Atlanta. I would die if I had to live in a big city again. When we moved here, the population was about 25,000. Now it is 120,000 and growing. Fortunately, we live on the outskirts and I can walk in the woods every day, getting away from all traffic and masses of people.
HumanEarth56-60, F
I did move out from a giant city (like Chicago/New York) to farm thats an hours drive to a small city

I will not go back. People in cities are very lazy. Cellphones were just coming out when I left city. I still don't have one

They have food delivered to them
They have their groceries delivered to them.
They can't do nothing without their cellphones
They pay money to do anything from getting permits and stuff. Like I haven't registered my truck in 15 years, I just used it. I don't pay money to the government use my own truck.

City people just love to spend money stupidity
HumanEarth56-60, F
Keep in mind I started out living city and hated my life there.

I was paying to have water to drink.

I was paying to own a truck every year.

I live in the suburbs, but would definitely move to a more remote location if I could. I鈥檝e never lived in a big city, and honestly I don鈥檛 think I鈥檇 like it.
Starcrossed41-45, F
I intend to. I grew up in the suburbs but I really fell in love with a small north woods town on Lake Superior.

In my 20s, I went to a rural University on the prairie and the closest big box store and restaurant open 24/hrs was a 45 min one way drive. I swore back then I would never want to live more than 5-15 mins from "civilization" but I think my priorities have changed. I like my peace and quiet and darkness at night.
akindheart61-69, F
well i might have to make that decision soon. it is way too expensive where i live with no end in sight to the rise in cost of living.
akindheart61-69, F
@beermeplease down here, my brother leases a storage unit to paint cars. the landlord is now refusing to fix the premises. His garage door broke. he has to pay to fix the 50 yr old door. no lie.
beermepleaseM
@akindheart that's awful. well if he ever moves to another storage unit he should break the door on his way out
akindheart61-69, F
@beermeplease LOL. they will charge him! talk about slumlords. he has one.
BoleuskasM
I plan to move to country side once i retire, i own a land with small weekend house away from the city, no other people, first neighbour is 20 min away, I cant wait for that time
beermepleaseM
@Boleuskas sounds like you'll have a blast in your retirement years...enjoy!
BoleuskasM
@beermeplease i hope so, but not just yet, in some 20 years or so 馃榿
Jeephikelove46-50, F
I鈥檝e lived in Surrey, Calgary, Vancouver, Langley, Chilliwack, Maple Ridge and Vernon. I actually liked things about all cities and towns I鈥檝e lived in. I can adapt to live anywhere really.
beermepleaseM
@Jeephikelove that's awesome... i've been to all of those places but i don't think i've been to vernon 馃...you are well rounded for having lived in those places...great learning/social curve. 馃憤
AlchemyFox36-40, F
I was always a country girl until my home was gentrified. It was like the suburbs moved to me.

So I'm moving to a different suburb far away from this place. It's too expensive to live in the country these days.
LadyBronte56-60, F
I've lived in the country, the city, and in the suburbs. There were pros and cons to each. I would move again - and may do so shortly.
LilymoonF
I'd move to a small town in a heartbeat. I'm sick of the city.
beermepleaseM
@Lilymoon i kinda would too...but the only problem i would have are the amenities... i'm getting a little older and i'm sick and tired of hearing crap like having a heart attack and waiting hours for an ambulance (if they have them) and these aren't exactly super small towns either...or hospitals only open on certain days...got a friend that has to drive 2-1/2 hours just to get simple tests done...it's brutal here in the interior...but also beautiful...give and take 馃し
LilymoonF
@beermeplease yeah true..
used to love NYC for 5th Ave shopping, Broadway, The Met, Restaurants, Radio City and the Cathedrals .
WillaKissing56-60
Cities are nice but my home is on a rural country farm for me.
Jenny123451-55, F
I like being in the city.

I like that I can walk to pretty much any type of amenity. I can even walk to the hospital. I think that if I lived in the country, I would feel very isolated and I wouldn鈥檛 get out much

knowing that I can walk to the post office walk to the grocery store pretty much walk anywhere makes it so easy for me to just get out and do stuff.
Patriot9656-60, C
We moved from chicago to a rural area. Its quiet and secluded
beermepleaseM
@Patriot96 chicago is a big city...it has its good and bad parts like any big city..but i know the bad parts are really "bad" would love to visit chicago one day. hope you're enjoying your rural area 馃檪
Patriot9656-60, C
@beermeplease i grew up in Englewood, the worst part of the city. We have not visited in 20 years
beermepleaseM
@Patriot96 i don't blame you for leaving 馃珎
LilnonamesF
I've lived in both
beermepleaseM
@Lilnonames i have too. but only briefly lived in a small town. it was situated in the mountains. i was in grade 3 then...but actually loved it.
