I know and your force to use the technology that actually doing you in.
Like me I still don't have a cellphone, but I know it coming where I'm backed into a corner.
At least I know how to replace cellphone OS with one of mine own that I've customized and I will figure out a way to make a manual battery kill switch.

customized os for androids
It can be done wth Iphones to but harder and finding software drivers are almost impossible to get
Androids are easy to hack and modify. I do it all the time for people. Some phones are easter then others
No more google play, google maps or any of that.
When you got the time. Look up customized cellphone ROMs and read up on it.
Buy or have a friend give you a old android to practice with rooting a phone. Because there is a chance you messing up and making the phone useless.
So don't spend a lot on learning. Like learn on 3G or G4 phones before starting out modern G5
