Never confuse pipe-dreams with reality. "If"...you've prepped yourself in life, attained an interesting, good-paying job with benefits and savings plan, coupled with a decent time-off policy......hold on to it.
You can still travel, but just for short periods of time. Life, in part, is about goals...and living a vagabond existence is no-where land. Sounds cool, feels cool at first until your dime runs out and you're on a street corner somewhere pan-handling for money.
There is a way to do things.......a way to live out shorter dreams during your work life so that, if you have disciplined yourself and invested wisely, you just might retire early enough to realize your end......traversing some of those same places, yet knowing you are doing so under a blanket of some sort of security.
As an aside I have to wonder, despite the attraction and sexiness of the endeavor, how many up and coming beat poets on the Left Bank died in obscurity due to their insignificance and poor planning.
It all boils down to one's realistic, measured vision of things I suppose.
