Disappointed by my therapist

So i asked her what she thought of me doing group therapy and she said no.
She said most people in the group setting would not be understanding of my tics or outburst and i should not go.

Not what i was expecting her to say.
Neither "therapeutic" nor professional. Most of these folks are totally self-centered totally focused on self and their own sense of wellness. It would be far more effective to see someone with BOTH mental and physical problems that weigh them down. Empathy and attention to others is a first step toward mental stasis and recovery.

Now that I have elder onset of tonic -clonic seizure activity I understand the stigma making a public spectacle but starting to adapt and accept what I have no control over. Luckily the meds. do help.

She is trying to protect you, as some people can be very judgemental.
Personally I wouldn't go to any group therapy. I have done one on one and wasn't keen either.
Its just not for me.
I will deal with my depression and anxiety issues on my own or with the help of a good woman.

@Grateful4you oh i don't hide. I can't i have kids lol. They are active in school and i have never missed anything they take part in. Now i do tend to stay back from the crowd so people don't notice my tics or hear my outbursts.

@Cigarguy101 I hadn't thought of it the way @Grateful4you put it. I was thinking from my perspective but he could be right.
Let's us know what you decide to do 👍
@Cigarguy101 I can relate. Being the center of attraction during a grand mal seizure is NOT my idea of 15 minutes of fame either.

What are your tics and outbursts?
Cigarguy101 · 41-45, M
@SinlessOnslaught so what do you suggest then. I don't know why she didn't think i should go. She just said no.
SinlessOnslaught · 26-30, M
@Cigarguy101 Ask her why
Cigarguy101 · 41-45, M
@SinlessOnslaught doesn't matter much anyway. I have find a new therapist next year anyway. Her office won't expect my new insurance

She's afraid people will judge you.
