Screw Tim Curry.

I remember the day she went away, it was late February and it was still cold outside. I stood outside the building looking at the big Bakery across the street.

For some reason, I thought the whole world would recognize her passing and it would stop for a minute. I remember looking down the street at the traffic light and seeing it was red, I felt vindicated for a second. Like the Universe was listening and made everyone stop. But then the light turned green and cars went on their way to wherever they were going. People went in and out of the big Bakery smiling and reaching inside their bags salivating over what they were about to eat.

Like nothing had happened.

I got in my car and drove down the road not believing that everything was going on like nothing. Like the world, my world, had not just collapsed. I went about filling paperwork, making arrangements and talking to people who have, as part of their job, the unenviable duty to tell me how sorry they were.

Someone here from SW just died. His heart gave out. He was a good guy. Lots of people attest to his kind nature and willingness to always lend a supporting and encouraging hand. Now he's gone. Just like that.

The next day, I wanted to see what were the first 10 posts on my feed after his death.

There was a guy talking about how useful AI is, someone else was reminiscing about some friend from EP, and some woman was talking about a friend who bought a house and fell down the stairs.

As I kept reading, some other chick was talking about dropping people off at the therapist, the Beastie Boys were sounding extra good according to someone else, and the Sun was looking extra awesome as this one guy waited for his breakfast.

There must be something about our SW friend here. Maybe my feed is not showing it, I thoight. As I kept reading I came across a post from a lady complaining about how much it hurts not having class, this other guy was in the same amount of pain but because of a certain song, and someone else was exhausted from skipping on puddles in the rain.

It took me back to the day I was standing across the Bakery watching the light turn green. And I thought it was foolish of me to feel like the world or any one of these people should stop and pause because of a grief that isn't theirs, after all, life goes on. I'm sure I have been guilty of the same apathy at some point.

But then I started seeing all the posts about Tim Curry, someone that I'm sure no one here has ever spoken to. Someone who has never given or lend a heart felt comment to anyone one here. And yet, here we are, crawling to be the first ones to express our sorrow for some guy who we have never even spoken to.

And I thought, screw Tim Curry, yeah all the way to wherever he is now.

You have highlighted things ive often thought.

Yes, its little sad to see the passing of great artists/celebrities.

To me, its rarely enough to make it into conversation unless they were an unsually long standing favorite of mine.
And Tim Curry was.
.... yet, i never felt the need to say.

But then, everybody is different.
Everyone leads different lives.
Everyone has different levels of engagement, personalization of topics, creativity and commitment to posts.

For some, the gift of the gab comes easy - they can post about anything.
For others, its harder.... they need a known topic that they know will be responsive to others.

I too have lost someone i didnt show enough love to here.
Many regrets on my part.
Learning he's gone made me not really want to be here for a while.
S.W is even a bit of a sore spot now, knowing I'll never see his silly jokes or clever allusions ever again.

I do sometimes scorn this celebrity adolation.
Why say? ....none of us ever knew them🤷‍♀....it seems silly really.

But then, i try to remember that we are all different.

For me, life takes up enough of my time that i have little left for celebrities.
But I can imagine there are others that have the time and the need for their distraction, so then they become a bigger part of their lives.

Just as your belated friend was.

I suppose its all relative🤷‍♀

But i do feel your frustration that someone real has gone. Someone that was here, and contributed and was seen...

...and yet is but a drop lost in the ocean with so little ripples seen by others 😞

To me it depends on what they have done for others. So this guy made movies. Who gives a shit. I don't feel the same about The Parton lady because she did use a lot of her fortune to do do good to make others lives better.
So this guy had the "gift of acting" good for him. Should we go to a factory and recognize someone who has the gift of welding?
I appreciate your stopping by and taking the time to read and comment.
You say it's silly of me to say no one knew him.
To me your adoration is silly because you like his movies.
@TheHammer oh, i think i may not have explained my self very well - i mean i think its silly that people highlight celebs, and their passong... coz they don't really know them.

And i didn't say nor express that i adored Tim curry so much that i had the need to talk about it - quite the opposite.

I just said that it can be relative

Sorry if I misunderstood you. My apologies.
That is what the average person does. It's called apathy. Every day, millions of innocent people, including children, face death or circumstances which would make death seem merciful. Even worse, a lot of it could be prevented or at least aided by us on an individual level. But people don't care.

Then a celebrity dies and suddenly they think the world has stopped turning.

"The day following the genocide of Hai Rais (August 29, 1997)— more than 500 victims, the majority of them women and children —, Princess Diana was killed in a car crash and her death was on the front pages of every media. I am referring to her on purpose because our painful memories could not believe that nobody mentioned our own little princesses."

@Magenta Thank you.

@TheHammer You're welcome. It makes me happy when someone speak up like this, and isn't part of the hive (posturing) mind and behavior.
I’ve never been One to adore the golden calf’s..

But Tim curry was kinda cool compared

Well, if this isn't how I felt the first few months after the war in Ukraine started...People on the other side of the world writing about their first world problems...splendid.
It kind of makes me wonder how Iranian users were feeling this year on SW too.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@CrazyMusicLover i am very worried about our good friend in Iran, Sooosee, She says she is okay.

I get your distaste for the RIP Celebrity posts. Seems attention seeking to me. Trending topics usually are.

@Akimbo75
Thank you for stopping by and for your comment. I agree.

This site is swollen with people talking out of their ears about pedos and child abusers..In 2024, 1,773 children died from abuse or neglect in the US, I dont hear neither MAGA nor Dems raising hell about that.
THATS FIVE KIDS A DAY!
But a guy who made a movie dressed In drag died and were crapping our pants about it.
