Sissy took it so hard
I picked the kids up and brought them to the hospital so they could say goodbye to him. We let the boys go in first, and watching them say goodbye was one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do.
Then I took Sissy in. She stood there for a few minutes just looking at him, like she was trying to understand what was happening. Then she climbed into the bed and wrapped her arms around him.
That was an hour ago, and she still won’t let him go.
I keep trying to get her to come with me, but she just holds on tighter and keeps saying, “No, thank you. I want to go with him and meet Spencer.”
I don’t know what to tell her. I don’t know how to make her understand something that I don’t even understand myself.
She just wants to stay with him. She doesn’t want to say goodbye. And I don’t know how to break her heart and tell her she has to let him go.
I wish more than anything I could make this hurt less for her. I wish I could take all of this pain away from these kids and carry it myself.
Watching your child hold onto someone they love and knowing they have to say goodbye is a kind of pain I don’t think I’ll ever be able to put into words.
I don’t know what to do. I just want to hold her and make this nightmare stop. 💔
