Once I almost had a foul ball that Mays hit into the stands at Candlestick during an OldTimers game. That would have been nice. Mays has to be on any Top 5 Greatest Players Ever list. He probably would have broken Ruth's HR record if he didn't have to play at windswept, freezing Candlestick

@graphite Mays also played at the Polo Grounds in NY. It was 483 to dead center and no picnic for right handed batters. Candlestick was also a pitcher's park. Additionally, Mays missed two seasons for military service.
Aaron played half his career at Fulton County Stadium, aka "the launching pad."
Had Mays played his entire career in a hitter friendly ball park, and didn't miss two seasons in the military, he may be the all-time home run leader.

So sad. He played for the wrong team, but we always respected his abilities.

@samueltyler2 He had one World Series win - 1954 in New York. Then he played in the Series for the Mets in 1973, which the A's won.

@graphite the Giants were rivals, Polo Grounds no man's land until the Mets took it over

@samueltyler2 Funny thing, when the SF Giants returned to play the Mets in 1962 and 63, they were the visiting team in their former home park

I lived near SF as a kid, and have been a Giants fan my entire life. Mays was my hero growing up.
