Take a step back. When any potentially dangerous emotion enters my mind, I pause for a split second and consider it.
I like to put a little distance between me and it by thinking something like "I notice that I'm feeling angry".
That separation allows me to avoid being swept away by it and I can then decide if it is justifiable and a good use of emotion
