The woman at the bakery with the confederate flag in a heart tattoo on her wrist.

She saw me looking at it and told me when she was a teen in the 90s she got into line dancing nights in her village hall. She had lots of fun nights and met a guy who she was married to for a time. “Now Americans have decided it’s racist. It’s a bit awkward”

I didn’t know what to say, so I asked if she was going to keep it. She shrugged and said it just reminded her of dancing with her friends. So I smiled, paid for my sausage roll and bag of crisps and left.

I suppose if we live long enough someone will tell us that something from our past is not okay anymore, and we have to make own decisions what to do about it. Based on her reasons I respect hers.

It sends a bad message though.

@Carazaa So some have decided. For her, the message is “Tuesday night is line dancing class”
Carazaa · F
@Morvoren I think she might be making up stories and is secretly racist, because she knows it is offensive to some. But I guess she might just be ignorant, or selfish or both!

@Carazaa Don’t be so self righteous. 20 years ago nobody had a problem with the confederate flag. Now lynching mobs are telling people to erase it.

Perhaps if jingoistic Americans didn’t plaster their flag on everything they culturally export abroad then this wouldn’t have happened in the guest place.

It is not for you to judge.

@Morvoren I think racism is wrong.
Morvoren · F
@Carazaa But that lady isn’t being racist. So she isn’t wrong.
Carazaa · F
@Morvoren I think it is offensive to many blacks because it is a representation of suppression of African Americans civil rights. Its the reason it's against the law in some governmental institutions like the navy to display it.
It is like the swastika to many Jews who were tortured and just inappropriate regardless of someones individual "freedom" to dislpay it. I am against hate!
Morvoren · F
@Carazaa We’ll that’s your opinion. She has here’s.

If you look in the comments of this post you’ll see someone has posted African Americans flying a confederate flag, so clearly not everyone believes what you do.
Carazaa · F
@Morvoren The question really is should we be sensitive to peoples feelings or selfish? I think we should always be sensitive and caring so we are not offensive to anyone. But its not popular in today's culture where it's more popular to fight for our own rights, do whatever we feel like doing, instead of turning the other cheek, and treating people the way we want to be treated, "The Golden Rule"
Morvoren · F
@Carazaa And what if different oriole feel different things? Which group are you going feel sympathetic to? Or how are you going to make everyone feel the same thing?
Carazaa · F
@Carazaa African Americans are not immune to racism!
Morvoren · F
@Carazaa Racism to themselves? Do you think they are waiting for a white person to tell them what they’re allowed to do?
Carazaa · F
@Morvoren Hate is always wrong! I understand what she said, but I don't believe for a second she meant it!
Morvoren · F
@Carazaa You haven’t answered the question. Are you going to go tell black people they can’t have a flag? Who are you to do do? What authority do you have over them?
Carazaa · F
@Morvoren Sin is sin, regardless if we are aware it's a sin. The worse thing in the world is hate. It needs to be aggressively abolished to keep a country from anarchy I believe. The south was built by slaves. Really disgusting in my view.

@Morvoren I know many people who are racist like I said regardless of their own race. One of my black friends in college did not like black people and told her own children to marry white people.
Carazaa · F
@Morvoren My friend above was black, and very racist against blacks! I believe she was wrong!
Morvoren · F
@Carazaa You have been talking all this time and call the lady in the bakery recuse but never once been able to say why.

It’s just name calling.
