When you were a child, what did you think of people and this world? What changed now that you have grown?

I was fairly isolated as a child. Our house was in the bush, 10 ks from the nearest village. My parents were alcoholics: chaos, violence, periods without food or clean clothes, toxic secrets, all these were the norm.
I learned to obey, be polite and be good to survive - also to spend lots of time alone in my room or wandering in the bush. These saved my sanity - well, planted a seed of it.
I was bullied at primary school - no friends - didn't know how to relate because my parents never modelled good communication.
I grew up feeling not safe and not trusting.

Loads of therapy, self-help processes, vipassana (mindfulness), and EMDR for PTSD have helped enormously.
I'm now okay at recognising who to trust. These days, I find it rare to be disappointed or surprised.

@hartfire Thank you for taking care of you. :)

I do hope that now that you have grown, you find the people who'd help show you your true worth.
@Casheyane True worth. I'm not sure what that is. How does one measure it?
All I can say is that everyone counts, each in different ways, and no one is worth less than any other.

Thank you for asking a great question that digs down into the deep and meaningful.
I'd say other than a bit more caution, my attitude about the world hasn't changed much.

The world and its people still fascinate me and I still spend a lot of time starry-eyed and full of wonder.

I didn't like herds of people then and I still don't.

@Mamapolo2016 Did the things that make you look with starry-eyed wonder change?
@Casheyane Not much. I'm still constantly wonder-struck. "The world is so full of a number of things."
There were good people and bad people.

Now I know everyone’s Bad, Sometimes they act good.

@Teggy I can't agree or disagree. In a way, I see it.
I thought humans were frightening and although I've grown more fond of the species, most are even more frightening than they were then.🥀

When I was around 6 or 7 years old, I didn't think about the world, or people in general. I thought about playing with my little group of friends. Later on, I thought about comic books and school, and if the world was mentioned in my life at all, it was when I was studying my social studies book, and American history.

When I think about the world now, it is with a feeling of overwhelming worry. Socialism stinks.

@Lostpoet I used not to be. But now I can relate.

I was a hopeful optimist. I really believed that with hard work and education, I could be whatever I wanted.

Boy was I wrong.

Everyone has just grown older and colder.
Even fatter and sadder.
I am still the wicked child.
Whose remarks incited the laughter.
Raebean · 26-30, F
Think I've learnt to take a little less of the not so fun stuff people dish out :D

I thought education was the boon.... But then I saw that the more educated they became... The more damaging to mankind...
Casheyane · 31-35, F
@Amor69Fati In a way

I think with the age of google more than anything i can lookup peoples bullshit. If i had the google when i was 3 i would have proven with facts that santa claus wasnt real.

@Raebean i remember bits and pieces. Kind of like events here and there but nothing in between.
Raebean · 26-30, F
@Arorin what is your earliest memory 👀
Arorin · M
@Raebean stepping on a hot coal from one of those old bbq's that were brown and cheap. I was 3 then too.
i used to have a rosy view of everyone.
i believed nearly every person was a good person and was terribly suprised if they weren't .

Now i realise nearly everyone is damaged and carries prejudices and resentment .
Casheyane · 31-35, F
@OogieBoogie Also true.

I thought everyone really was created equal but come to find out, there honestly are intelligent people and stupid people 🤷‍♀️
