That’s week 27. It would be a federal guarantee and we’d never need to talk about it ever again.

If that also bans abortions when the mother's life is at risk, no. Such conditions mostly occur near the end of the pregnancy so a complete ban would be very bad.

But if medical exceptions remain possible and this "compromise" makes early stage abortions legal everywhere, I'm absolutely in favor. Women who didn't want to become pregnant know that well before the 27th week and only get late stage abortions because they didn't have access to them sooner. If that's fixed, 3rd trimester abortions for non-medical reasons are obsolete, and the earlier you do it, the less inhumane it is so that's definitely better.

That said, I don't think it will end the discussion. Conservatives will see it as a step towards getting their way and push even harder to lower the limit further until all abortions are banned.
@Bumbles thanks for the best comment!

Yes, except to save the life of the mother, or if the fetus isn't viable and carrying it threatens the health of the mother. The standard in Roe v. Wade was abortions are illegal after the fetus is viable outside the womb. With modern tech, that's probably around 25 weeks. The few late term abortions are non-viable fetuses; otherwise they're illegal by the Roe standard.

Interesting info on who is getting abortions when. 92% occur in the first trimester; they are very rare beyond the 2nd trimester.

I shall continue to reserve the right to abort up to the 312th trimester, thank you.

Very very rare to have such a late term abortion. And normally due to health concerns or detected an issue with the fetus that is fatal to it.

So yeah a ban on abortions after the third trimester

week 27? too random. offer french law week 14 or fetus brain function week 8, that would settle for good.
@strait46 Still clinging to that lie about when the brain fully develops?
As long as there's an exception in the case of risk of death for the mother, I'm all in on that one.

I can't fucking imagine living with myself after doing something like that. Ugh

Isn’t it already banned in most of the us states?
