it is so wild to me how a murdered pregnant woman is "double homicide",

but if she has an abortion, she has "elected to terminate a clump of cells."

Yeah, it's stupid. I guess the logic is that abortion is supposed to be a choice by the parents, so if the woman is murdered, the choice was taken away.

@BohemianBabe yeah..it is just so not evenly applied. i would posit that a pregnant woman has a body growing inside her body, so it doesn't count as her own. however, even IF it was "my body, my choice", and not 2 separate bodies: i get told what i can and cannot do with my body all. the. time. my bodily autonomy terms when my fist meets your face, when i break and enter into your building, when my lips form the word "fire" in a movie theater, when i use my hand to forge a check, when i handle an illegally aquired firearm..when i..murder.

@TheEmperor To abort the fetus. That's why it's called "pro-choice." We're not for forced abortion.

@foldedunfolding So the difference is that a fetus isn't a person, whereas if you use your body to shoot someone, you are affecting another person.

@BohemianBabe but a murdered pregnant woman is a forced murder..so you think the viability of a life comes down solely to choice?
@TheEmperor It's a life, cells are living things. When you cum, you murder millions.
But personhood begins at birth.

@BohemianBabe then you believe we should change the law with regards to the term "double homicide."

im not really interested in debating the merits or lack thereof of abortion, here. that is a huuuge and FRAUGHT discussion. what i am asking for, is consistency.

@foldedunfolding A fetus occupies its mother’s womb. Living in another person’s womb is not a right, it is a privilege that can be revoked at any time for any reason. Just because you become pregnant doesn’t mean you become a walking incubator with no say-so in the matter.

@TheEmperor i brought up the lack of consistency in regard to the application of terminology and existing laws, more specifically
@foldedunfolding Yes, but it's not a huge issue for me. I understand how murdering a pregnant wife is taking away the choice from her husband, if they planned on going through with the birth. So it's one of those issues that I do disagree with, but it's understandable enough that I don't care if it gets changed.

@BohemianBabe here's my thing..choice is suchh a vague issue on which to hang one's hat, i feel. the baby has no choice. a victim of homicide, no matter the age, has no choice. how is an aborter's choice more elevated than that of the person committing double homicide?
foldedunfolding · 41-45, F
in other words, it is a rather specious argument to say that choice determines morality.
@TheEmperor It's extremely debatable when all of that begins.
The strongest and clearest line we can draw is birth. It's not perfect, but it's the best we can do.

Also, let's be real, the point of this discussion is political. We're really talking about when abortion should be legal. Considering that late-term abortions only happen in extreme situations, I see no reason to not keep the line at birth.

@BohemianBabe also..should choice be applied in ALL scenarios? should no one be in prison because they kinda don't feel like penciling it in? im being respectfully facetious to make a point, not in the name of snark.
@foldedunfolding When do you consider personhood to begin?
foldedunfolding · 41-45, F
to your point on cum: it has not united with an egg to become an embryo, so i find that to be a moot point.
foldedunfolding · 41-45, F
@BohemianBabe when it is an embryo
