Do teachers actually used to beat students at school?

Mostly the boys....all day you could hear the male teachers banging the boys heads against the metal lockers in the hall.....once in a while there'd be a girl (me) who got pointers broken over her head for being obnoxious

Yes, I went to a school with nuns, used to hit on the hand with a wooden ruler, quite hard too.

My mother used to tell me the nun in her school had the leg of a stool attached to her belt, and that's what she hit the kids with.... (that was back in the 1950's Ireland)

Yes they did. I just made sure I wasn't a recipient.

I have had older people tell me what the old education system was like, and they did used to beat them. It is called corporal punishment and could involve things such as 'the belt' (hitting kids with a belt...I think on the wrist or hands).

when my parents were in school the school never called their parents and kids rarely got expelled because the school took care of discipline. in some ways that's better than the system we have now. some kids actually behave worse when their parents are around.

Kids used to receive maximum force ruler hits on their palms. If you got one thing wrong in your homework or if you didn't pay attention, SLAM! SLAM SLAM! You went home with bleeding hands. Some kids used to put salt on their hands to break the ruler.

I once had to eat a jar full of ghost peppers because I was blamed for saying 'prostitute', while it was my evil classmate who did and I wasn't witty enough to defend myself.

Corporal punishment in British state schools, and also in private schools receiving any element of public funding, was banned by parliament in 1987.

It was still practised when I was at school and it was largely a power issue then. There were probably less boys expelled then than there are now.

Curently schools can discipline pupils in other ways or exclude them for a fixed period (suspended) or a permanent period (expelled).

some schools used to cane the pupils on the ass, others caned them on their hands

if the teachers now do it is it considered abuse?

my parents got paddled at school.

We used to get hacked by teachers if we misbehaved in class. It is against the law for teachers to discipline children in such an extreme way now

long ago but public schools dropped that system.. legally that is.
