No but lying about things just to be nice isn’t kind either
Fertilization · 36-40, F
@Birdbox1986 I don’t think every lie is toxic or unkind. Sometimes, choosing not to be completely truthful—especially when the truth serves no purpose other than to hurt someone’s deeply held emotions—can actually be an act of compassion. Honesty matters, but so does knowing when someone’s feelings matter more than being brutally truthful.

@Fertilization well said

A lot of people don't understand what tactful honesty is. They mistake it for "sugar coating" and that's NOT what it is. There is most definitely a way to say things to people so that your point is conveyed in the best way possible and completely understood without harming or offending. People who usually say "i'm blunt" are just saying it as an excuse to be a jerk and more often than not can't tolerate the same being done to them in return. We should put out the energy we want to receive in kind.

@DancingStarGoddess Absolutely Tactful honesty isn’t about sugar coating or hiding the truth it’s about having enough emotional intelligence to know how to deliver the truth Being honest doesn’t require being harsh and being blunt isn’t a personality trait when it’s simply an excuse for being inconsiderate The real test is whether we can give the same honesty we expect from others with the same respect and grace.

Very well stated!

I quite agree.
I'm straight forward with tact
These are real words. Think before you speak. For more that 3 seconds. ❤
Ann99 · 41-45, F
@DrawntoaDistance Yeah exactly 🧡
Rickichickie · 61-69, F
I agree wholeheartedly!
MrSmartyPants · 46-50, M
It's rampant, thanks for shining a light on it ....:)
PatientlyWaiting25 · 46-50, F
This exactly. But I think it takes a lifetime to learn and some will never manage that.
scorpiolovedeep · 51-55, M
Well said.

And you get more detailed clarity in private conversations.
Musicman · 61-69, M
Exactly! Very well said.
Wireman · 31-35, M
I found that people being blunt, or straight forward, don't like it at all when they are also treated that way.
ineedadrink · 56-60, M
@Wireman Funny how that works.
So true, some people think it's big to act like that, but I find it shallow at times
4meAndyou · F
Being KIND is of paramount importance. ALWAYS TRY to think of other people's feelings FIRST... before you speak.

THAT is what I learned when growing up with a parent who NEVER thought of my feelings.

These days, I call it "being diplomatic".
Ann99 · 41-45, F
@4meAndyou You’re absolutely right I’ve seen people around me hurt others feelings just because they think being blunt and straightforward gives them the right to say whatever they want. There’s always a kind and respectful way to be honest
They need to realize. That bluntness thing goes both ways. Alot of times those blunt folks dont like it when people are blunt with them. LOL
Fertilization · 36-40, F
This has been the problem for decades. And people just walk out of the room pretending they have done nothing without realizing that the damge has been done.
I agree! There’s also an egotistic part of that, thinking your honesty is the absolute truth and others will benefit from your wisdom. You may feel a need to say it, but mostly I don’t need to hear it.
nowic2 · 61-69, M
Well said, it demonstrates a lack of emotional intelligence and care for the other person. Or more bluntly is a form of bullying by humiliation.
romell · 51-55, M
Well said one has to be taken tactful how to handle a situation to make a person understand their mistake done in public but rebuked in private
djjohnson · 46-50, M
people who say they are "straightforward" "blunt" or "just telling it how it is" are just trying to excuse/justify their self-centerness/laziness that they can't be bothered to think about their audience. What they are really saying is "I don't think you are important enough for me to want to actually communicate with you but I'll feel amazing for saying this"
