Do you know the story or legend behind it?
Originally a slave ship captain, John Newton in 1772, wrote that song about the hurt and hate he seen on numerous trips to Africa. He seen them whipped, beaten, and scouraged and the slaves gave praise, thanks and grace. He wrote the song honoring how much love they gave even in a heart of servants that were forced to leave country to come and serve as slaves. Did u also know, some slaves were called " bond slaves"? These gave their entire life for certificates of freedom, yet served still.
Jesus told us we are his and its amazing how his grace sets us free..just as this song touches your heart, the truth is in the lines..i once was lost, blind but now i see..Jesus sees you..he loves u, even in the hardest parts of your heart, he has room for you to hear him. You are loved by grace!

I have a few songs that affect me the same way. In most cases, I can identify the personal event connected to the song that makes me choke up.
When I sing everybody tears up I’m just that bad
