I'm so wary of people that call themselves life coaches.

This field is rampant with ego driven people with no credentials. There's no supervision, no regulations, no standards, no associations, no licensing, it's a breeding ground for predators, unstable people and opportunitists. Trust me, I speak from experience.

As for therapy, as regulated as it is, it's not one size fits all. Find the right fit. That's both the therapist and the modalities used.

So a proper life coach I believe in the UK, should have a background in counselling and therapy.

Yes you can do online courses.
But actually without the proper theory I don't think they should really be practicing.

Not unless it's alongside a teaching profession whereby they are actively using it to motivate their students.

@Mellowgirl those online courses are level 3 at best which is beginner. I don't think anyone who hasn't done post-grad is qualified

Diploma or just counselling isn't enough. Unfortunately.

@Mellowgirl I feel differently there if we're talking postgrad, because a lot are now doing diploma instead of the whole masters which is just a final project at the end. Everything else is the same and that's only because SCoPEd have changed membership categories of qualification, making it even more expensive for people to train towards. It's rather classist. Objectively speaking, diploma and masters level are truly no different except money. They both had the same level of training.

When I hear a "life coach" talk it often makes me cringe 😅 I often find myself thinking, "Shouldn't you have your own life straight if you're gonna coach someone else's life?" 🤣

Like why would I wanna take life advice from someone who pays way too much on their car payment?

I have a deep rage in me whenever I think about life coaches. I notice they tend to be people who went to school for therapy but are not licensed. Its fucking scary. No regulations, laws, or ethics, just willy nilly with someone’s life.

The whole life coaches thing is just a big scam. If you need help then get it from a professional not some guy who has no credentials and charges you 400$ an hour for saying nothing of substance.
