Where I live the electricity comes from one source, a purely greed-based company that couldn't care less. So if the government took over what difference would it make?

They could.. If people paid more tax...Just like universal health and free education..😷

@whowasthatmaskedman nothing is for free. U would pay for it one way or another
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@smileylovesgaming Yes and No.. Of course someone pays..However, there is a catch.. First, the cost of provision of services can be subsidized to those who can least afford it. (Which you are going to say is a bad thiing.. But wait) The long term cost of lost working production while people are ill, due to extreme cold (or heat) and the cold of the health care of the chronicly ill. Or for that matter, the cost of the police, insurance, courts and prisons for those in poverty and unable to be employed due poor education or bad attendance due to ill heath is actually more of a burden on the nation than paying for those services. The numbers have been done on that. It is just that the short term gain for the rich Trumps (pun intended) the longer term good.. Before you scoff at that, consider the rapid advance of China in industry. Because they have a healthy, educated and maintained workforce.. Sure, profit making ventures should pay for utilities. But there is no reason not to include the worker under a certain income level in provision of electricity and water..It is a form of wage support that actually relieves pressure on employers to give wage increases. And on the government to increase unemployment and other benefits..😷

some people (usually the elderly) who cannot afford to have their AC or heaters on
how can we call ourselves a 1st world country when the elderly and vulnerable are suffering for lack of AC or heat 😤
smileylovesgaming · 31-35, F
