I never appreciate anything

All my life I’ve never appreciated anything, I always think when I achieve a goal I’ll be happy but turning 40 I’ve found out that it’s a constant cycle in my life and I’m scared.

Most people have always told me to appreciate what I gave and where I am but unfortunately I can’t seem to appreciate anything.

I’m wondering has anyone ever felt like this and how did they have a change of mentality.

Here too, you need to figure out if your perfectionist tendencies are related to a past parenting style. I do deal with similar things.

Happiness related to achievements is fickle. Contentment as a goal is much more consistent.

Be grateful for what you have, not what you give.

What you have given already never belonged to you and you don't have to hold unto it.

We only truly have our good inner child. Celebrate that self in whatever ways work for you. You will eventually feel less detached from its innate goodness and grateful for having it. And you don't have to express that gratefulness the same way everyone else does. That's overrated. Playing in water with your feet can be still be gratefulness, crying for your own hurt is gratefulness, simply leaving bed for yourself to feed it can be gratefulness. Doesn't matter how others define it.

I mean lets call a thing, a thing. If you have gone through life feeling unappreciative of what you have, that makes you selfish. There's no easier way to say it. You will never be happy until you appreciate the benefits of your hard work. Pride is what you are lacking. You need something to feel proud about basically. Its like you are watching everyone around you prosper and have all these things that they are proud of as you sit idle and not show appreciation for what you have. Think of it this way lets say you had a neighbor their apartment was fully furnished, beautiful! Yours had a milk crate table and air mattress. Rather than just being thankful that you even had the apartment you dwell on the furnishings that you dont have and you feel ashamed, embarrased and miserable. Again pride is lacking. You work hard, buy a couch and be proud of it. It gives your life purpose.

Happiness is a state of mind not an achievement or a place. I'm talking from experience.
Start by appreciating being alive having food and clothes and a roof over your head and running water and electricity and your eyes and limbs.. assuming you have all that just appreciate whatever you have..

Take the daoist story of the immortals.
They are eight figures and each has reached enlightenment and immortality by a totally different way (Tao)

What's..your way .... ???

Same. The more you know about life. The more you get depressed.
