Both involve consensual sexual activity, often outside committed relationships, and focus on physical interactions rather than emotional connections.
But hookup culture also involves casual, often uncommitted sexual encounters, typically driven by mutual desire or attraction, without an exchange of money. It may occur between strangers or acquaintances. Making it bit different from prostitution.
Money is the major factor involved in prostitution. So the term free prostitution actually doesn't have a meaning.

While some aspects of hookup culture may share similarities with prostitution (e.g., objectification), it is not accurate to equate the two entirely. Healthy hookups prioritize consent, communication, mutual respect, and autonomy – values that differentiate them from exploitative situations like prostitution.

Nah... someone needs to get paid for it to be prostitution
The lack of a monetary transaction makes a massive difference. You could argue that the acts are much the same but the wider consequences are not. When something becomes profitable whilst remaining illicit then it firmly enters the sphere of organised crime and people tend to get hurt and abused on an industrial scale. Hookup culture can result in broken hearts, sexually transmitted diseases and unwanted pregnancies but it rarely endangers people on anywhere near the same scale as prostitution. It is also far more likely to involve real free choice than prostitution.

No money changes hands and (presumably) all the participants are in it for their own benefit. It isn't transactional.

Poon is involved so it got my attention! 😎

@Tumbleweed An old, some would say archaic, term.😆

I feel like it’s more for mutual pleasure versus prostitution
WoWgirll · 36-40, F
@DownTheStreet I see
DownTheStreet · 56-60, M
@WoWgirll I suppose you’d have to try them, or ask those that have? Neither is too appealing to me.
Strongtea · 22-25, M
I think they’re different, but I wouldn’t do either of them.
Sometimes it's just two lonely people trying to get through life.
Selah ·
why do we complicate normal human interaction
Prettybratbi1tch · 26-30, F
There's no such thing as free prostitution
3Dogmatic · 51-55
Technically…. Maybe.
SumTingWong · M
That depends on why the girl says yes to the guy. if she wants more than just him..........then yep its prostitution.
WoWgirll · 36-40, F
@SumTingWong what about food? Is that also a trade
SumTingWong · M
@WoWgirll Food is sharing..........not using each other. Its given to make time better shared............not as a payment for sex. If it is used for that.......make that your last date with them.

I agree with you that's one thing I don't hook up with a woman I totally respect myself as well as women.
val70 · 56-60
I guess you're right, but there's an awful lot of loneliness out there too
Justmeraeagain · 56-60, F
Only if money or goods are exchanged.
But,I find it highly immoral and risky.

I think "free prostitution" is just sex.

If it’s free it isn’t prostitution? People wanna bang
KentuckyWildcats · M
I see it as mutual rewarding behavior.
Fertilization · 36-40, F
I see no difference either.

In a way, yes. In the 1950's, morality was actually a "thing" for young women. Young men refused to marry young women who were "fast".
In the 1960's and 1970's, during the Vietnam war, the communists began an active campaign in our country to undermine our moral fabric, and undermine the family as a source of our strength. "Free Love" and the hippie movement were all part of the Vietnam war protests, which were a psy op engineered by the communist north Vietnamese and the Chinese.
It was also part of a 45 Goal communist plan read into the annals of Congress. It was #40 of the plan. "40. Discredit the family as an institution. Encourage promiscuity and easy divorce."
Hookup culture is the result of teaching young women and men that it's necessary to be promiscuous, in order to have any hope of a future family and children.

Prostitution the girl is getting the guy off quickly so she can move on to the next guy.
Hooking up the guy wants to get the girl off to 😉

I see the difference, but I dabbled for a bit, and it absolutely feels like free prostitution after awhile.
