Why do so many people trust their "intuition", when at least half the time it's just wrong?

I never followed my intuition, only to find out later that it was correct.

Gut instincts may operate at a subconscious level, but often reflect the aggregate impact of a life's experience of reading body language, facial cues and more. So they are often far more than a feeling.

But a mere feeling of familiarity in certain scenarios lead people astray. This is well documented in the phenomenon "Lure of the familiar", i.e. someone keeps finding themself attracted to the same sort of person because they are familiar to someone in their past. Not because there is objectively a good match.

... not "at least", the success rate is exactly 50%, implying that "intuition" is completely useless.
(If your intuition were wrong in 90% of all cases, you could just do the opposite of what your intuition tells you, leading to a 90% success rate.)

My intuition has been right about 85-90% of the time.

Depends on the probable outcome of listening to it or not. If it's a case of I don't like the feeling at this party, probable outcome injury follow it. If it's I feel horse to win the next race will be Desert Orchid but I can't afford to gamble don't follow it. Etc.

If you have nothing else to go by, then that is the only thing you can trust then hope for the best.

They're mistaking it for something else if I had to guess. Their feelings, superstitious thinking, etc.

Because they've been told to, is one reason.

Intuition works, if you pay attention to it.
