I'm not saying this is true, but I have noticed that employers are more apt to hire someone who fills out the application and turns it in, in person. Maybe that's the problem. In their eyes, this shows more enthusiasm and initiative. That goes a long way with them. It shows you're not lazy. In their eyes, that is. They are more willing to hire people who will go that extra mile to stand out and above the others. Then after you have filled it out and submitted it, wait 3 days and then write a very professional, neatly typed business letter as a follow-up. That really goes a long way. That's what will get you hired, along with being punctual for appointments, dressed well and neatly, and showing confidence.

@LadyGrace I got a certificate from the company that way only. I travelled 1000 miles just to see the guy in person.

@LadyGrace Most large employers here use job portals and you cannot apply for a job by handing in your application(s) in person. Many of them even use AI-driven software to do first (and perhaps second) rounds of culling before any real human involvement happens. This is especially so where a job ad gets thousands, maybe lots more, applications. The most common job ad website here is one called Seek. No longer are jobs advertised en-masse in newspapers. Once upon a time (20 yrs ago) the Saturday newspapers were where all the job ads appeared.

@zonavar68 Even a office visit counts. Like visiting the office and state the reason as I have applied for the job here and I really wanted to look at the work ethics and culture that I will have to assimilate into.
